So, it is now the time in December that we all have to make our lists completely final. Basically, if I don't give my counselor/teachers recs for schools in the next few days, I can't apply (since it won't give them enough time to get them done). I have done so much college searching that I have really narrowed down my list, and am only applying to four schools (GW, Georgetown, WashU and Brown). I find out from Gtown Saturday, and if I don't get in I'm applying to American as a super-safety. My issue now is, with applying to so few schools, that I'm getting cold feet realizing that I'm going to end up at one of these schools! I feel like come April, if my priorities have changed in any way, I'm going to want choices. What do you all think of applying last-minute to any other schools? School suggestions? Can anyone relate? Thanks for any input :)

Five schools is ideal...They are all good schools with different majors to choose from if your initial thoughts change.

What about these schools appeals to you? Presuming it is not some j'ne se quois sort of thing (disclaimer: i don't speak french and probably spelled it wrong), you can figure it out and look for similar schools.

For example, with Penn, I know Georgetown has a good deal of student interest overlap with Penn because of similar student bodies, WashU has some because the schools are similar, and with Brown because--well, they both share the Ivy label and that's about all they have in common.

So I applied to McGill... easy app, safety school, and it sounds really awesome. But I'm still second-guessing if there are any others I should apply to. My preferences:

Any size over 2k, not TOO big, but big isn't a dealbreaker
Don't care if there is or isn't frat life... either side has benefits
work hard/play hard
good jewish population
good for linguistics or int'l relations
not conservative

wow... for someone that has seemingly open-ended wants for a college I sure am picky haha

How about an LAC or two for good measure? Colgate and Lafayette offer Division I Patriot League sports (like American), decent sized Jewish populations and student bodies that work hard and play hard. Trinity and Union are much the same, with Division III NESCAC sports, and Division I ECAC hockey at Union (like Brown). Also, have you heard of James Madison College, a residential college of public affairs and international relations within Michigan State U.? James Madison College

Query: What is causing the cold feet? Your stats have you worried you won't get in, or is it something social, geographical, or other? Because without knowing what it is precisely you are concerned about, its hard to recommend something that might be "the cure."

Everyone gets nervous and has self doubts. The real crunch time is in April and then its followed in late May and June with, "did I make the right choice...maybe I should have gone to XYZ?" But by August you will be okay and by September, you won't look back at all.

What about Brandeis? Vassar College? Tufts University. All outstanding schools, with a large Jewish population, rigorous academics and a healthy social life.

That would be my recommendation to you.

Barnard if you're female.

Brandeis is too Jewish, Vassar, Poughkeepsie ehhh, and I visited Tufts and didn't like it. Barnard wouldn't do an all girl's school.

Cold feet isn't from worrying about getting in, I have safeties, but about having choices. But, with McGill, I'm applying to a total of 7 which is absolutely perfect. Thanks for the advice :)

Interesting that you didnt like Vassar and Tufts. What was it about them that you didnt like? I know people at both and they are very happy.

The only school that I didn't apply to that I'm thinking I might like to is UChicago. However, I've heard their app is a pain in the ass, so I think I'll pass, especially if I find out I got into my EA school this weekend.
