Application Completeness

I'm an ED applicant to Columbia. I sent in my Common App and I got an email back saying I can check the status of my application with my Columbia ID after November 10th. What do you do if, say, you check on November 10th and they don't have your transcript? Are you effectively barred from the admissions process if your guidance counselor made a mistake like this?

Also, a computer science researcher I worked with who knows the school sent in a recommendation. It was just an additional letter without any evaluation forms. Would something like this show up when I log in to check the status of my app? Or should I call in to see if they received it?

Thanks!

I’d also like to know about the transcript. My counselor is new to sending transcripts online, so I’m anxious he won’t get it done in time.

Keeping on bugging your GC till they send it

well no - i mean there is a deadline, but frankly that is mostly for your stuff, things can trickle in afterward. if it gets to nov. 30 and it is still not in, then you are gonna have trouble.

also know that columbia reserves the right to make a decision on you with or without all the information, so they could deny you, or hell even admit you, without everything. it just makes their life easier if you submit everything on time.

Thanks, admissionsgeek. So will I be contacted sometime in November if they’re missing a part of my application? Also would something like a recommendation letter without Common App evaluation forms show up on my Columbia account, or should I call to check if they got it?

as far as i know they will contact you if you are missing things - back in the day they sent letters, i gather now they might send emails.
