Application Confusion...

There are a couple of parts of my application, including one kinda strange activity and one extenuating circumstance that is very unusual. I have tried my very best to explain these on my app, but it's very difficult to tell the whole story in writing. If admissions officers are still confused, will they make an effort to ask me for clarification? I am getting an interview, so if they are confused are the likely to ask the interviewer to ask me to clear things up? Or would this kind of "extra clarification" opportunity probably not happen.

You are veiled and probably for good reason but is this a highly selective private or a public? You would really need to give a little more info.........just the fact that you have these "circumstances" makes you bipolar.......some will shred it and some will look again for a reason to pick you. I don't think you have told us enough about the schools.

I'm talking privates- HYPS. My basic question is do admissions officers make note of things they are confused about or want to ask the candidate about, and could these be passed on to an interviewer? Is it likely that I will have the opportunity to further explain my circumstances in person if the adcoms don't understand in my app?

You need to find a way to explain things clearly on your application. The adcoms expect that students will clearly present their information. If the students aren't able to do this, the students don't sound like good possibilities for places like HPYS.

Adcoms have to review thousands of applications during a very brief period. They aren't likely to take the time to track down vague information when it's easier to simply choose another applicant.

I interview for Harvard, and have never had an adcom call to ask me to question an applicant about anything. Sometimes adcoms call GCs for such info, but that's more likely to be if things don't make sense (unexplained dip in grades) or if the adcom needs more info about the school or something similar. A vague or confusing explanation by the applicant would probably make the adcom assume the student is not HPYS material.

What kind of information are interviewers given about an applicant before the interview?

admission officers certainly wont ask for clarifications on anything u have submitting ......may keep a note however.......
That is all presentation of an application is all about......

suspiscion and doubts and question will create a -ve impact and harm ur chances

Yea I guess...I just wish there was a better way to explain face to face with someone. Could I do through an interview even if they don't specifically ask me about it?

You need to do it in writing and send it to the adcoms so that it is put into your application folder. If you need help with this, ask your GC or an English teacher. You can not depend on an interview.

Also, if you can't clearly write about it, why do you think that you could clearly convey the info in person? Writing allows you more time to think, and it allows you to revise. You also can write when you are calm. Interviews are stressful, and once words are blurted out, you can't revise them.

If you are not able to coherently write about something important and complex that affects your life, that is telling colleges like HPYS that you are not an appropriate candidate for admission.
