Application Confusion!

I'm applying RD with the Common App and I can't seem to figure it all out. There are 2 parts to the application- The first part has an "optional" essay and the second part has room for a personal statement. Is that it? Am I missing anything, like a "Why Tufts?" essay?

Oh, and is the "optional" essay really optional, or does everyone do it?

One more question- On the website, below the "optional" essay, it says "Please note that you can complete the Optional essay on Part 1/Supplemental Form OR Part 2/Common Application Form of the online app." What does this mean? Ahh I'm so confused! Thanks for any help.

Anyone? Please?

You need to first submit the supplemental form, which Tufts made up. Then, fill out and submit the Common App part, which is also on Tufts' website. Both forms have spots for the optional essay, so you can attach it to either.

As far as the optional essay goes, the speaker at the info session said it really is optional. She said that giving a boring, bland optional essay can actually detract from you and it is just a waste of time. It is helpful if you can come up with a good essay though.
