If a school says that the deadline for transfer applications is March 1st, but then has an asterisk footnote which says "Preferred filing date. Applications and supporting materials will be accepted until May 15" - what exactly does that mean? Is it basically rolling admission? Does applying by the preferred filing date matter in terms of helping or hurting your chances?

I think it means that the main part of the application needs to be done by March 1st, but if you have any extra files to send in like transcripts/letters of rec/other things, you can send it in until may 15, but they would still prefer if you have everything in by march 1st.

ok, so if i submit everything else on time but one of my instructor evaluations is late that would probably be ok right? the professor who’s writing it for me is a well-known public figure, which is great except that it means she’s incredibly busy and probably won’t be able to get it in by the 1st which had me nervous!

well the best thing to do is call your school and see what they say, but i think it should be fine.
