Application Deadline

I know the deadline for Northwestern is January 1st. However, I am unsure if my school will get my transcript and recommendations to them by then because of winter break. It may not even be postmarked until a little after the 1st! If the application is in on time, do they allow a little bit more time to get the school's materials in the mail?

Also, I am applying through the common application. Though it makes no mention of it anywhere on the common app supplement, the Northwestern website says an "activity chart" must be sent. Can this be in the "additional information" section or does it need to be sent in the mail? Is it part of the common app version of the application at all? Thanks.

Dunno about the second question, but so long as you get the actual application in on time you're fine.

I would highly recommend that you do an activity chart and put it in the "additional information" section of the common app. I did not know that NU's website said such a thing, but after reading about the idea from another source, I decided to put one in mine. For me, its what I gave my teachers in order for them to comment about my ECs. Make a chart in word and include the following things (1 per column): (1) Name of the activity (spell it out), (2) the grade levels you participated in that activity (eg. 10-12) and the hours per week you put into that activity, and (3) the basics of that activity, your leadership roles/ awards won, and what you have done specifically for that club/organization/whatever.

I found it highly useful considering the common app doesn't let you include by a few words about your activities, when in fact, they are such a very important part of your application.

I was admitted to NU ED c/o '12 soo I guess it worked for me?

Frequently asked questions, Freshman, Office of Undergraduate Admission - Northwestern University

Skip down to where it says "How do I apply?"

I actually stole the chart from Princeton's application.

Voila:

Isn't that ALREADY on the common ap?
