Application Deadlines

Hello again, I've been looking at deadlines and since the website seems to have not updated for this year's dates yet, I've been wondering what the differences are between the two deadline dates? I'm guessing the one in October is the priority.. what are the advantages/disadvantages of applying by this time?

Also, if I'm taking more AP classes my last year of HS, and I apply before October, would they still see those classes I'm taking? I'm also guessing I have to retake my SATS and ACTS before, and I'm feeling quite nervous and unprepared for those.. should I wait till the next deadline? I'm afraid I won't get accepted if I don't send in my app before the priority deadline.

help omg

The October application deadline (and December decision date) is FSU’s standard timeframe. If you apply by that deadline, you have many advantages over waiting until the second decision date:

 1. you can’t apply for housing (if you want to live on-campus) until you are accepted. The application opens in January so you would be 2 months behind everyone else if your decision date was in March
 2. FSU has fewer spaces allocated to the March decision date. It’s harder to be accepted during the second decision date
 3. in the event of you being deferred in December, you likely will get a final answer (of acceptance or rejection) a couple days before the general decisions go out. You essentially could get 2 chances of acceptance (once in the initial decisions, another later on) which I don’t think the March decision date applicants get.

You can send in your test scores through I believe the October test dates for the first decision date.
You list your senior year schedule on the application, I believe (it’s been 5 years- whoa- since I filled it out, so things have probably changed). I’m pretty sure there’s a way to list whatever classes you are taking, though.

Honestly, there’s really not any advantage to waiting to the second deadline. You might as well just apply during the first deadline date. The application should be due sometime around October 15 with a decision around December 15.

Thank you! You cleared up many things. All the other universities have deadlines in November, so I guess FSU is one special school haha

Just encountered a problem though. SAT is offered October 5th, and on collegeboard it says those scores are sent to colleges beginning October 24th. ([SAT Scores - Get Your SAT Scores Online](<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>SAT Scores – SAT Suite | College Board))

The first deadline is October 16th, do they have to have the scores exactly by then? Because when Collegeboard decides to send scores is out of my hands.

You can still send in your October test scores.

Thank you so much for this thread. I was in the same situation deciding whether to take the SAT for the second time before applying and gratefully found my answer.

Vanessa,

I called FSU yesterday. I have the same problem; I haven’t taken my SAT’s yet. The Admissions office said that I have to have my scores ready and sent in on Oct. 16 with everything else. If I do not have everything by then, the only option left is to apply regular admission.

My friend on the other hand says as long as you take the SAT before the Admission deadline, they will send in your scores and the school will make an exception.

The only other way to apply then is to take the ACT on Sept. 23, which I still don’t think will make it in time since the scores take about 5 weeks to come in.

Can someone please confirm this, or was the person who spoke to me mistaken?
I’m really confused haha.

-.- I would assume you’re correct since you spoke with a legitimate source unless Pasbal is an admissions officer himself.

I’m not. But FSU has always said that the October test scores were fine to send in, as long as they were received a few weeks before the decision date. They have also always said that for the March decision date, you could take the January/February tests, as long as you had your scores into FSU before the decision date.

If adeity wouldn’t have any test scores on file before the deadline, it’s possible that is the issue. They probably would like to have some test scores before the deadline, with everyone being able to bump up their scores with the October test dates.

I know that when I applied to FSU, I took the ACT in October, and my scores were sent to FSU and in FSU’s system well before the decision date.

My daughters Oct scores were sent in last year and used for her admission.

You may have spoken to a student working in admissions or someone who didn’t have the correct info. This is not unheard of! I had a friend receive wrong info when she called last year. I told her we were told otherwise during our tour/admissions meeting and to call again. She did, and got the correct info. Call back to clarify.

oh man, well I’m going to the campus at the end of this month for an admissions session, so I’ll be sure to ask them personally. Thanks for everyone’s input though!

They accept October test scores for the December decision date. If they tell you anything otherwise, they are wrong.

Now, you may (or may not, I can’t remember how it goes) need to already have some test scores in the system in order for October scores to count.

I know that they accept October scores, because my initial ACT scores when I applied didn’t include the writing test (and FSU only accepts the scores if it has the writing test). I took the test in October with writing and they accepted those scores.

The issue is complicated because they mention that January & February test dates are okay for the March decision date, but don’t mention anything for the December decision date… and you will want to be in under the December decision date, trust me.

Thanks Pasbal!

Okay, so I have taken my SAT’s once already. However, my score was a 1610 and although my other academic records may aid my acceptance for the Early Application, I don’t want to take the risk and send those scores in (I highly doubt I’ll get in with that score)

So if FSU did not accept the October test, then I was considering just applying in January because that way, I could take my Oct test and with more time, I could retake one in January and send in the best score.

Now my question is, If I want to apply early, do I have to send in everything besides my SAT’s on the early deadline or can I wait till I get my SAT scores from October and then decide if I want to send them in early, or wait until January? (just in case my Oct. score ends up falling below what I need).

Or is it set up to send in everything including my old score on the deadline, and then wait until the Oct. scores are published to send in the updated score?
^and I take it there is no way to back out of the early admission if my Oct scores are bad. Is that correct?

Sorry for the confusion. I have no clue how this works.

aaaanyone?
