My daughter applied to Pitt on 10/7 (College of Arts and Sciences) and received a letter via mail on 10/22 stating that they will defer her admittance decision until she sends her mid-year senior grades. Her SAT score is 1290 (630 Verbal, 660 Math) and she is awaiting her Oct SAT scores. Her weighted GPA is 93.21 and unweighted is 90.25 at a very competitive school and includes several AP and honors classes and several extracurriculars. Pitt is her number one choice (by a very wide margin), so she was naturally concerned that she was deferred. I suspect that it is the gap between her SAT scores and GPA (definitely impacted by a difficult transition during freshman year that she then turned around) that is problematic.
Aside from sending the requested grades, is there anything she should be doing to bolster her chances of getting an acceptance? I have suggested that she call and speak with an Admissions Counselor and ask that very question, but I don’t want to miss anything else- it is our first time in this situation and we are just unsure of where to go from here.
