I plan on applying to reed, as it is my number one choice. I don't know if I should apply RD or ED II. If I apply RD, it will be late enough in the year for Reed to see my senior year, first semester GPA. I'm taking the most rigorous classes I have ever taken, and my grades are the best they've ever been. Do you think they will look more favorably at me applying ED II or RD with better grades? Thanks for the help

If your junior grades would work for ED2, then your more rigorous and better senior grades should work even better for RD, and RD lets you compare FA offers if that’s an issue. Schools like an upward trend.

^On the other hand, ED II properly expresses the fact that Reed is his number one choice. Your point about financial aid is good though. OP, is FA especially important to you, or do you have the security to apply early and maybe not get as much as another school?

FA is not an issue for me. I just don’t know how much EDII would help, compared to my upward trend(which is demonstrates by my first semester grades)

They’d rather have a kid with a slightly lower GPA but a lot of passion than one with a slightly higher GPA but not as much demonstrated passion. Plus the pool is smaller.

This isn’t to say you wouldn’t get in RD. Just that ED II would make some sense, since it does show that passion (that you really should genuinely have if you apply then…)

So what was your junior year GPA and what is your expected GPA this semester? I agree with Matt if they’re nearly the same and high enough.
