Ok, this may seem like a dumb question, but I’m not sure where else to ask it.
For several liberal arts colleges, there is a generic application that gives the same general essay questions as options.
If I am applying to various schools that use that form, or that have the same question, can I write one essay and submit it to all the colleges I am applying to?

yes, you can still use the same essay.

I assume you're talking about the Common Application. Yes, you can write one essay for the Common App, but many colleges also have supplements which may require an additional essay.

Sure, but if, for example, you were to mention the college in the essay, make sure you edit the college for each individual college. I have read stories where students actually forgot the admissions committee then viewed the applicant as careless.
