Application Essays

Are there any essays for the application to IUB? I was looking over the application I received in the mail, and I don't see any, is this right?

No essays, don't need to send in any EC lists. It's all numbers based.

Am I crazy? The application takes 15 minutes.

Does Indiana take the SAT scores from a single sitting, or the best scores from multiple sittings?

Is there any advantage to applying to Indiana early?

The big advantage is that you get more scholarship $$$ if you are accepted by November 1st. Then you get the SSA which could net you some small scholarships, in addition to larger than normal faculty awards for OOSers. You get considered for direct admission to many departments, better chances (although it's easy to begin with), and also if you are admitted and send in your housing quick, you will know where you are living first. I know kids who today still don't know where they will be living, who their roommate is, and we start in 3 weeks. But mainly for scholarships.

And yes, this is probably the easiest application you will find. All you need to do is send test scores and a transcript and you will likely be admitted. Better test scores and transcript nets you more $$$.

It helps to be accepted by Nov 1st. So you should apply by Oct 1 to get a chance at the scholarships?

Then I guess you better take the SAT or ACT junior year.

Any other schools that have applications almost as easy as Indiana? My kid is also interested in business.

What is SSA?

Does Indiana take the SAT scores from a single sitting, or the best scores from multiple sittings?

Ok. I see that Indiana does use the SAT from multiple sittings and the ACT from 1 sitting.

does anyone know when indiana starts accepting applications?

The application is avaliable on the website right now, just go to www.iub.edu and click Prospective Students --> How To Apply and you will find it. They prefer it electronically.

I'd apply as soon as you can. The first day my school let me apply was mid-September, and I didn't get my admission packet in the mail until November 12th (Funny story, i'll always know that date because it's 5 days after my B-Day, Indiana was playing my hometown team Michigan, I was watching the football game, Indiana had just scored a touchdown and took the lead 7-0, at that time I got my IU acceptance packet in the mail, was shocked at the scholarship, and then IU lost 41-14 from then on, lol).

I actually gave you bad info, for Direct Admission you can apply whenever, but for the full ride scholarships (ex. Kelley Scholars) you have to be accepted by Nov 1st. I also know of kids who got good $$$ late in the process, however, don't apply for Spring semester because $$$ is scarce.

Not a top business school, but Ohio University was just as easy. I applied to Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan State, Miami FL, Syracuse, and Ohio. Indiana and Ohio didn't require essays or ECs.

I'm wondering if it is worth it to take the SAT one more time. That would delay the application.

My daughter goes to Mich so if my son ended up at Indiana, which team would I root for? :)

Well, what is the current SAT score? If there is room for improvement and you believe he can get it up higher, then that means more $$$. Every little payment helps, I got a few small scholarships which right now are really helping me. Faculty Awards cap off at 7K/year. Generally speaking, you get that 7K if you hit a 30 ACT or a 1300 math + CR. Kids got 6K/year with 28-29 ACTs and 1250-1300 SATs.

Anyways, you root for Michigan for football, Indiana for basketball. Michigan has won 11 straight in football, and Indiana has won 9 straight times in basketball.

Is this for students who are entering college/ graduating high school in 2011, or graduating college in 2011? I am pretty sure its for students who are entering college/ graduating high school in 2011.

For students entering this year and for the future, you go by the academic standards beginning 2011.

On the application, it asks for the date you took the SAT (and ACT). I took each test twice, so do I put the date that I scored the best on?

I checked the website, and it said "IU will have new admission standards for students entering in the fall of 2011. " So that is for those beginning college in 2011. I think the reason they put it up so far in advance is so that students can plan out their high school classes to make sure they comply.

For the Indiana application, are the online application and the counselor signature page all that needs to be submitted? Is there anything else I need to send?

Thats good for me, since I begin college in 2008.

That's all you need joexc07, also remember your test scores, although your counselor should have that.

thanks (10 char)

Hey did any of you send teacher recommendations or activity lists, will it help in getting scholarships? Thanks

Won't help, they won't consider them. It's all numbers based. Get good test scores, you'll get more $$$.
