I fully understand how the fee waiver works for the cal state application. My problem is that I didn’t get it even though my mom doesn’t make that much money. I qualify for reduced lunch at school. Also I qualify for the SAT fee waiver. For the UC schools, they have an option for people who didn’t get the fee waiver online. You can submit an SAT application fee waiver in the mail and that will qualify you for the application fee waiver. However, cal states don’t have this option. Does anyone know of anything I could do?
The Cal States have many low income students who apply and may need fee waivers. It may be that the Cal States have to limit their waivers to the lowest income students. You can call and ask.
The UC’s have one application for instate students, hence, one fee waiver.
Cal States don’t have the one app.
You can pay the app fee. I would call first.
My son’s HS counselor sent out an email about this over the weekend. I cut and pasted the relevant part below.
The fee waiver for UC/CSU is embedded in the application and based on your response to the income and household size question on your application (there is no code). To get a fee waiver families should not be making more than $11,000 per person in the household (i.e. a family of 4 should put $44,000 or less). Unfortunately for Cal States if you are not approved for a fee waiver there are no alternatives.
