for UC's they only look at your GPA in transferable courses. For example... if lets say the cut off for admission to a major is 3.5, and your overall major was a 3.5, but in transferable courses it was a 3.3, you would not be allowed admission.

so basicallyt then I could hypothetically get c's in all my pre req courses which dont transfer...and then get good grades in my transferable courses. Right?

Ok, i have a new problem.
i was going through the applicaation and i calculated my gpa "their way" including all F's and D's even if you took the courses over..... these are courses like Keyboarding and elementry algebra which dont even transfer....... regardless now the gpa i have to put on the dam application is 3.36 (which sucks i knoww)
anyways, that isnt my transfer gpa and its off by a lot, what is that going to be looked on like?

Do they really take the time to calculate your gpa in courses that only transfer>>?||

They look at your record and compile your transferable GPA regardless. And I guess on the online application it doesn't even ask you for the GPA, just does it itself.

Hey, I have a question. Say my GPA at the time I apply is 3.5 but, by the end of the fall semester, it will go up to say 3.7. Which gpa will the colleges look at ( Espeically the UCs)?

supposedly everything but spring, (includes fall and winter)

i dont understand this transfer GPA, i thought that all classes you take as long as it is within the IGETC will transfer with a grade, and preq classes like 3 for humanities need a grade to count. are you saying they dont need a grade, and not only that, they dont COUNT even if you have a grade?

WingZer0--he was talking about "prereq courses that don't transfer." He didn't mean prerequisites for his MAJOR; I think he meant remedial classes like math and english. In non-transferable coursework your grades dont matter--that was the point.

And not all classes need a grade to count--a certain amount of pass/nopass is acceptable in classes where it's allowed.

Okay, so Wingzero said, the admission office will look at the gpa that I earned after the Fall Semester right?? Sorry for asking a stupid question but, I will have a huge difference in my gpa after this semester...thanks for the input

classes that are not college level or do not fall under igetc are not counted towards your gpa. They go into ur CC gpa but not ur UC gpa. Thus no worries.

A distinction needs to be made with your "UC" GPA though. When the classes transfer (when you actually transfer to the UC after being admitted and enrolling) the GPA does not come with it. Your UC GPA only has classes taken at the UC.
