After submitted all of my apps, I've noticed that I carelessly made a couple of errors in my essays, like forgetting to put the period on at the end of one sentence and leaving a word out in the sentence "asking him (missing word) tutor me." There are one or two others like this. Do you think this will affect my chances at the top colleges?

CALL to those top colleges

fobnyker,

and say what, exactly? That I realize I made a couple of typos? I mean, they WILL understand what I was trying to say, my mistakes do not hinder them understanding what I'm trying to say at all, it just looks bad and shows I didn't proofread well enough...

fobnyker why would he call? that's a ridiculous suggestion.

umm i called macalester and told them i made few mistakes,,, and she told me to fax the copy of revised essay... calm down guys

Actually, if those are the only mistakes, you're fine.

top colleges may have a hard time overlooking those mistakes though.

you guys really need to chill out...
OP, i know its hard.. i made a couple typos myself but like i already said in another post... they just want to get to know more about you! besides, there will be 10842472847 other ppl who applied who made BIGGER typos... your mistakes seem pretty minor! i mean, if you had cut out half a paragraph and sent it THAT would be a problem.. but seriously.. no point in getting all worked up over a WORD! they probably wont even notice it and it definitely wont be the reason they reject you.. that would just be dumb. I mean your grades/test scores/rec all give them an impression of your academic strength.. they wont think less of u because you forgot the word "TO" and a couple others.. they will realize it was just a simple mistake and move on.. EVERYONE makes typos at some point or another.. theyre quite common

Everyone doesn't make mistakes. Don't be under the illusion that kids who have dreamed of going to very selective colleges and worked hard during their high schools to build up their record are going to make careless typos in their applications!
Yes, many applicants make typographical errors, but those who are targetting top schools are usually doubly careful. Plus they don't wait till the last moment as the OP is apparently doing, so they have time to check and recheck...

I don't think there is anything you can do. Calling them and telling the colleges that you missed a period will probably only annoy them. Just let it go and hope for the best

Question though.

What happens if we forgot to include one document in the envelope in which you sent the entire application?? For example, I forgot to send one of the forms from the common app today, but I noticed it, and immediately created a cover letter explaining the situation and what I had included in the envelope.

End of the story - I submittd everything on time, just in two different envelopes. Is that a problem?

No, fhimas, that I can say is FINE.

thnx 4 ur r'spns

THE DECLINE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE! MUHAAHAHAHA

I just noticed a mistake on my application.. Dont think its something i have to worry about though..

I applied to univerisity of illinois at chicago and went to their website and ordered a application in the mail back in september. In the application it had a cover letter that had a student ID that they wanted me to add to the application. Well i forgot to look over that letter again for the student ID and sent in the application. I didnt notice that the cover letter had the ID number until today 3 months after i sent it in. Does this matter?

Probably not... U of Delaware apparently gave me an ID number, which I promptly lost or forgot about. It said on the app to just use your birthdate as your new ID number... I think, it's been a while since I did that app...

I'd assume they'd use the ID number to maybe see if you'd visited the college or gone to an information session.
