Application numbers for Early Decision fall at peer institutions

As per the William's student newspaper article: http://www.williamsrecord.com/wr/section=news&view=article&id=8392

It appears that at the most competitive liberal arts institutions, early decision applications recieved have fallen in number. The article cites the 10% decline at Amherst and the 7% decline at Williams.

Do I think this will affect Swarthmore ED applicants? Absolutely not! The only statistics that matter for us are Swarthmore's. Unfortunately, the office of Admissions has not released those numbers yet. But should this be a trend for 2007, this year's pool, while likely still exceptionally qualified, may have been less competitive.

We'll just have to wait and see.

There seem to be far fewer ED posters on CC than in prior years; maybe the ED craze is dying down a bit all over.

I don't necessarily think that less posters means less applicants (although I hope so!)...not everyone loves forums. :]

Whether it's less competitive or more competitive, we can't do anything about it, so knowing wouldn't do much other than soothing some of our worries. Regardless, I'm excited for next week. :]
