My application was put on hold for a second review. Kinda disappointed. Do most kids get in after being told that they’re application will get a second review? Anyone get accepted and visit? Only concern is that the area isn’t great for being safe
not sure on first but review is def better than a no.
Campus is fine. im a mom, in fact what could be called a neurotic mom re how safe campus was(or was not) before my son enrolled. He is now a sophomore. On campus is truly fine. Very well lit. overly well lit would be better description. Temple has a big police force and they casually patrol campus a lot, most likely to discourage would be trouble makers from causing trouble.
i feel just as safe on campus, including late at night, then i would in a safe suburban area. Some areas right next to campus are also fine. For example cecil B moore from Broad to 15th is very safe. my son now avoids that area due to panhandlers but has never felt unsafe there that im aware of.
a couple of blocks off campus can get dicey fast but some areas are still ok. for example, the area to the southeast of campus is more like a spooky part of Fairmount than North Philly if you follow what i mean. i’ve met a lot of other parents, actually through CC, and i don;t think any of our kids personally have run into safety issues since enrolling. nor have the kids i know from other places that are Temple students. The worst issues i’ev heard of have been thefts, which is common, so protect your belongings there, as in don’t leave your laptop alone, even for a minute.
Yes, worse things happen but there have been recent murders at Millersville U(only one and it was an exboyfriend, but still) not to mention the well known murder or a U Va student either a year or 2 years ago. not trying to be a bummer about this, my point is anywhere, even safe places, have their dangers. So please don’t let the North Philly concerns scare you out of enrolling.
Well that definitely makes me feel a lot better. I plan on visiting only if I’m accepted bc I don’t want to go and visit it and end up really liking and get my hopes up if I’m not accepted. Thank you though, my parents were kinda effy on the fact that I applied there but I’ll deff take them on a visit of I go.
if you drive, come up from 676. they will likely be scared to death if you go any other way. you can get there by subway and regional rail too.
