Application Part II

When is it going to be available? The website says mid-August but that deadline has passed for sure. I'm not planning on submitting it the minute it becomes available, but I would like to be able to start filling in all the stuff like family, education, etc. that the Common App makes so easy. Anyone know?

It was late August last year. You’ll be able to fill it all out pretty quickly once it is up. Only the short answers and essays take a while.

Thanks, that sort of puts my mind at ease (I worry too much :)). Is there anywhere I can find a link to an old one? I have the main essay but I wasn’t really aware that there were short answers as well.

short answers are usually along the lines of (and here’s a little advice, just because it was my favorite part :):

“What is an activity that is important to you, and why?”–Better to talk about something you didn’t mention in your main essay. You can be really playful with this too, it doesn’t have to be “I like spending all my free time working at a soup kitchen” (no offense; if that’s really what you like, by all means talk about it!) I talked about how much going to the beach means to me. Be very genuine, though, I’m sure they can tell if you’re just making something up to be creative

“What do you plan on doing when you get into usc?”–Expand on the generic, "this is what I want to major in, this is the career I want. Really do some research on some internships, jobs, study abroad opportunities, etc you want to take advantage of.

“Is there anything else you want us to know?”–this one freaks everyone out because it’s so broad. If there’s something you really need to expand on (like the only C you got because you had mono during the final), this is the time. If you’re iffy about what you have to say, consult with a teacher and/or parent. Like, one of my friends said “Oh, yeah, I put ‘Please please pleeeease let me in your school!’” It took all I had not to palm my forehead it was so cheesy.

I think these were the only freshmen questions for the past two years.

wait, i thought part one wasnt due until october 15th?

^ You are correct: Part one is due October 15th, and the Part Two deadline for scholarship consideration is December 1st, 2010. The Freshman deadline without scholarship consideration is January 10th, 2011.
