I am under the impression that on your college apps, if you take an honors/AP/IB course you can report a grade higher than you actually got? for example if i got a B- in IBchemistry, i could say that i got an A-? it sounds like a crazy question but I just wanted to make sure.

No. You can’t. Some high school’s do calculate a “weighted” GPA where they give more points to an honors or AP or IB course. Colleges generally “unweight” that GPA anyway. You need to report the actual grade. And your transcript will show the actual grade anyway (you don’t want to be inconsistent with your transcript). The colleges WILL take your course rigor into account. A lot of AP/Honors/IB classes will be noticed and considered when they evaluate your course rigor. But you need to put the grade you actually got if you are entering grades.

But… why are you doing this anyway? I don’t think the Common App asks for grades, they want you to send official transcripts. That is how they know the grades are for real.

No that’s not how it works.
First on the CommonApp YOU don’t report grades. You report your GPA which should match the GPA on your transcript.
If you’re filling out the UC app (or any other app where you actually do manually input your grades) you hav to input the grades exactly as they are on your transcript. The colleges assign point values to each grade based on the grade you got and the course type which they then use to calculate their own version of your GPA.

No! Don’t do that! That’s an almost guaranteed way to get rescinded or rejected once they see your transcript.

Okay good I just put my grades in just like they are on my transcript. My counselors gave me incorrect information then lol. also, @intparent I’m doing this for UC and CSU applications

Scary that your GC told you this!!

@Sunflowergirlryd: Your UC/CSU GPA will reflect the extra honors points you get for your AP/Honors classes (as long as they are UC approved). Just enter in your grades exactly on the transcript. There is a tutorial for CSU and UC applications and there is also hints on the right side of each application to help you with any questions for each section.
If you have not calculated your UC/CSU GPA, here is the link: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;

The only CSU GPA that will be different is Cal Poly SLO which also uses 9th grades (no Honors) in their calculation.

Not exactly how it works but some colleges do take into consideration your AP classes and it will go in towards your favor. Just make sure your grades go in just like they are on your transcript
