Application process question- Urgent deadline...

Here is my situation :

I am a senior and need more time to take tests , etc prior to my application to a college. I know that most colleges have deadlines for application in december or sometimes earlier, but i still have not taken the Sat, or any sat IIs ( i know this is horrible and that it will hinder me, but i just wasn't well informed about the entire proceedure); besides, i want use ap tests scores, ,which are only taken in may, to strengthen my record. i should have taken the sats earlier and i am fully aware that i will end up overwhelmed with work towards the end of the school year. Therefore, i really won't have any of these requirements that colleges ask for until about the end of the next semester, when i will graduate. SO, my question is: Can you start the application process when you have graduated and are out of school, or do you have to be actually attending school normally ? And also, how will it work? For instance, do i have to wait a few months (july, august) since it is sumer break or should i start the application process as soon as i have graduated and have all test scores and etc??

Thank you in advance and i would really appreciate if these questions are addressed promptly

wait, you are in grade 12 and you don't have any scores?
unless you got some godly ECs or grades+recs. i don't think you got a good chance

"Thank you in advance and i would really appreciate if these questions are addressed promptly"

an amusing way to end the post for someone such as yourself, for whom "prompt" does not seem to be your strong point...:) j/k

Sure, you can apply for next fall (2007) once you are out of school and have graduated. Deadlines for the coming fall semester will be over for most schools around the first of January.

Some schools do have what they call "rolling admissions" and will look at your application whenever you send it in for the coming semester. Some state schools that don't fill their classes may also have room for latecomers, but for the most part, classes for the fall of '06 will be full.
You could plan to take a "gap year" after high school and do something really interesting after graduation, and then apply for '07.
Many schools look favorably on this, or at least don't penalize students for it. Since you are just learning about the whole application process and obviously don't have much in the way of guidance, I might suggest this route. Take your time, research schools, and decide where you really want to be and what you want to do for the next four years. Meanwhile, you will have had an extra year to mature and maybe persue an interest or travel, or whatever.

you still have plenty of time to take the sats. There is one this coming sat, November, December, January. It hink the Jan testing date is the latest one for RD admissions. Apply this year....don't wait until you've already graduated. unless you have a really really really good reason for going to college a year later, I highly suggest applying now.

I haven't applied yet, i have recommendations from teachers (arranged) and sports etc. i will wait until i take those tests prior to begin applying off course, they require you to have those tests scores. But can you answer my original questions??

you apply again in the fall of 2006 like the rest of the seniors and no, you dont have to be in school. But colleges will want to know what you have been doing during the gap year

but you should know..for alot of colleges you dont need to have your SAT scores before you actually mail out your app. Most apps are due in early January...you can still take the SAT on the January test date and have the scores directly fowarded to the college. So you still have 3 more chances to take the tests!

No ,

I am eagered to start and my academic records and broad extracurriculars are really impressive ( gpa 3.9 most tests 99, average 98, honors, aps, volunteer,etc...), the only problem is that i havent taken the standardized tests yet. Here is what i would like to do: take all the tests by the end of june, then apply in september or when the application process for the schools that i want begin and start classes in september or january. Is that possible? There is no need for research or time, i already know for which schools i will apply , which recomendations to send and my chances. everything is planned i just have to take the tests , which i am confident i can score in the 95% percentile marks or above. is it possible to apply in the fall of 2006 and begin in january or in the fall? it is really unresonable for a student like me to take a year of and there is no need for such a futile time gap

I am also going to school regularly and will graduate in june 2006

The reason i didnt start the application yet is because i know that i will score very high--based on academic performance-- on the tests and this will help me get accepted, but some tests, like the ap and sat II are only administered next semester and i need time to prepare

you can take the sat in november, and sat II's in december, that went you can still apply by january of this year and go to college in fall 2006

For applying for admission to Fall 2006, overwhelming majority of colleges require that you apply this Fall or the latest in January; actual last date varies. If you do not apply in time, you will not be admitted for Fall 2006 to vast majority of those colleges and you will have to wait to apply for Fall 2007. You can take that gap year after high school and apply for Fall 2007 if you want to wait until then, and as to when you would apply, you would just follow the college's application schedule for admission in Fall 2007 -- meaning for most you would apply sometime between September 2006 and January 2007. There are some that will still take apps into the spring of next year for Fall 2006 and even into the summer and possibly admit you but those you will find are not going to be colleges that are high or medium on any ranking list. There are also some that will take apps in Spring 2006 to summer 2006 for admission in January 2007. There are also some colleges that do not even require the SAT that you could apply to now for Fall 2006.

If you want to go to college next fall you should immediately start investigation into colleges you may be interested in and find out their app deadline dates and what tests and other things are required. You should note that the vast majority of colleges require only the SAT or alternatively the ACT and you do not need (and they don't even want) SAT II's. Waiting for next year's AP scores is not an option unless you want to delay your application until entry class of Fall 2007. Also, colleges do not require AP scores for admission. They can help you to get admitted to high ranked schools but all those high ranked schools will require you to apply this Fall or by January for Fall 2006 admission and those AP scores from next summer will have no bearing on admission.

If you want to go to one of the vast majority of colleges that require only the SAT or alternatively the ACT, you can complete the test requirements now -- just sign up for the November SAT. Moreover if SAT II's are needed, sign up for the December SAT II's. Also, check those college deadlines carefully. Most require your app by the deadline date but will take a test score that arrives somewhat later, e.g., the University of California schools require your app by November 30 but accept test scores through the December test date. Thus, for most colleges, you are incorrect to assume you must take the test first before you can even apply; you just have to take the test by the last test date accepted by the college.

Thank you for the Information
For the college that i plan to apply, 2 SAt IIs are required, i will assure, that i score extremely high on them and on the other tests. After that, i will think about applications, i probably should have started earlier anyway. I even wanted to stay one semester longer in school( considering that i will graduate a semester earlier) but my guidance declined...
