Application process

@ reginaphalange - even though the scholarships are automatic, you still need to fill out the scholarship app for them. From my understanding, that will qualify you for the automatics and also put you in consideration for department/college scholarships that are available too.

*When people talk about applying for scholarships, that doesn’t include the automatic merit scholarships, right? Those are…well, automatic? *

The scholarships are assured as long as you submit the scholarship application before Dec 1st.

Bama doesn’t really use the word “automatic” since the scholarship application must be submitted.

So, you have to fill out the scholarship app, but it’s really a formality for the assured scholarships as long as you have the stats and apply on time.

The scholarship app is also used to determine if you’re eligible for any dept scholarships based on your chosen major.

S received cwid via email yesterday apparently - he thought he would mention it. So he logged on, set up crimson email & completed scholarship ap which seemed to be working ok. They had a ton of scholarships listed, I didn’t see the pres, trustee etc. So at this point there is nothing left to do right? Ap for Honors College isn’t completed until acceptance is received, right? The same with IHP & CBHP if he chooses to apply?

Roll Tide!

They had a ton of scholarships listed, I didn’t see the pres, trustee etc

UA may not list those scholarships on the scholarships app but that is the app you need to submit for those scholarships.

Honors college app after acceptance.

@ldinct. Did the email with the cwid state that S had been admitted?

No, the email said his application was being processed. It explained how to fill out scholarship ap as well as how to make acceptance deposit(when the time came for that). He did get two emails to his Crimson account- one confirming receipt of his highest SAT score and the other just a general email.

The email with the CWID is rec’d before admittance so that the student can set up mybama so that they can apply for scholarships and stuff.

In the past, the email with the CWID came 2-3 days after submitting the application - but maybe not for July applicants. Those who are applying now will likely be receiving their emails with CWIDs within a couple of days.

Here’s a hint…after you set up your mybama with your CWID, you can get early notice that you’ve been accepted because the link to apply for honors and/or the link to make deposits will appear on mybama.

ldinct, my son got the same email today. We will log on tonight to fill out the scholarships app. Exciting times!!

M2K - where on mybama would those links appear?

^^

Just checked MyBama and we are now seeing the options that M2CK posted!! D applied July 5th.

Congrats! I think you are officially the first one.

Whoo hoo! D was very excited when I told her.

Woo Hoo, it is on S’s page too. We would be really, really excited except reading through the honors app, I see the gpa posted is wayyyy below even his uw gpa, so not sure what happened there. Guess I will have to look into this.

It’s not on Ds page and we applied July 1st. :-(

No CWID here yet, but her school hasn’t sent in her transcript yet, so that could be the reason. School starts tomorrow, so she’ll be able to get them to send it out soon!

“except reading through the honors app I see the gpa posted is wayyyy below even his uw gpa, so not sure what happened there. Guess I will have to look into this.”
@Indict Just curious what this means, because I thought the requirement for honors college was based on SAT/ACT, not gpa. Am I wrong on that?

Yes, I believe it is based on SAT and his was correct, however it listed his gpa which is way below what it is both W & UW and what is needed for scholarships.

D didn’t get the email with CWID yet either. MyBama shows transcript was received on 7/13. We are just in wait mode.

ldinct: Your guidance department should have a profile about your son’s school. If it offers a very demanding, rigorous curriculum that will help to explain your son’s GPA, that may help him still land a spot in the honors college.

For example, at my son’s school, there is an AP history teacher who has a reputation for not giving too many A’s in his class. Or shall we say, it is nearly impossible to earn an A in his class. Colleges know about this class. In fact, many students say that he prepares them better than any other teacher in the building.

He has had students nearly fail the class and earn 5s on the AP exam. He’s tough but good.

Momr, yes we’ve gone through all that- the profile was sent, weighted gpa was sent- it just isn’t being picked up by Admissions at this point.
