Actually S received his snail mail acceptance and the freshman deposit link says “you haven’t been admitted…” I was figuring that was eventually going to change. Is anyone else able to deposit? Not that I was going to send in the deposit quite yet…

We still aren’t able to deposit either, but we have received the official acceptance letter. Maybe there is a glitch in the system.

I received my acceptance letter but I can’t pay my freshmen enrollment because it says I haven’t been accepted

/\ /\ /

I think this just means that they haven’t enabled the ability to make that payment yet. I thought I read somewhere that they began accepting enrollment deposits on September 1.

It would make sense to me that they’d want to let their accounting department finish up with as much of the incoming freshman/returning student stuff for this semester as possible before they begin trying to process the deposits for next year’s students.

We’ve received all my daughter’s official acceptance letters (UA itself and College of Arts and Sciences), and we still aren’t able to submit that payment.

Maybe deposits aren’t being accepted just yet.

You can always contact your area rep and ask. :)

It’s probably true that the accounting office is distracted now with getting money from all current students for various charges…tuition, housing, meal plans, etc.

Just a quick question – didn’t want to start a new thread.
I know I’ve read this on here, but I want to confirm: If a high school does not weight, UA will accept a note from a counselor saying what the weighted GPA would be and will use that for scholarships, correct?

We’re having a little issue with Bama miscalculating my GPA – my school uses a six-point scale (I certainly don’t blame UA; not even us students understand my school’s grading system) so I just want to make sure I have my information right, should it come down to me needing my weighted GPA for a scholarship.

I also have a question, the self reporting of the GPA is alright , right? And then they get sent my transcripts with my GPA(s) on it. I included weighted and unweighted. I have yet to actually submit the application.
I’m just freaked I’ve messed something up. The other things we have to submit are test scores and transcripts right ? No recommendation letters ?

^^^Hi, alliesaywhat. I’m not sure why you’d self-report your GPA. The application doesn’t ask you to do so (from what I see) and the only thing UA will care about with respect to grades is your official transcript. With a 3.7 unweighted GPA you have nothing to freak out about. Relax, just follow the instructions on the application, and don’t try to read between the lines.

Trust what you see: the application is as simple as it appears to be and yes, you are correct in that no letters of recommendation are required. I’m guessing you’re a shoe-in for admission.

I think you self-report GPA on honors app…

Don’t worry if your self-reported GPA slightly differs from what’s on transcript. That happens all the time because transcripts sometimes calculates a bit differently than regular report cards …because transcripts calculate only semester grades or year end grades.

You can make sure what your GC submits is noted by what is posted on the scholarship app. Even with the note 'bama admissions calculated their own gpa for my S; they did not see the note. We had to send an email or two to get it rectified. But no big deal as they fixed it and reposted it right away.

Oh, well there was a section on the application that asked for GPA and class rank, so I put my GPA as I knew it to be and class rank and I’m expecting my transcript to be mailed this week, so regardless I guess they’ll have the information? And thank you all for the help. (:

Regina…

MikeW’s D had the same problem with her D’s school and its odd GPA. I think they contacted the Honors College with the correct way to recalculate and honors intervened to get it corrected.

You could also send a recalculated GPA to Carolyn Rogers Director of Scholarships and ask her to get it changed.

carolyn.rogers@ua.edu

Thank you m2ck - it’s reassuring to know that others have had the issue and it’s been corrected. My college counselor contacted our regional rep, who told her to contact Carolyn, so hopefully they’ll be able to work it out. I’m just panicking at even the possibility that they might disagree because I’ve been counting on this scholarship, but hopefully it will all work out.

If your GC sends a letter to Carolyn with the correct way to recalculate your GPA to a 4.0 scale, Carolyn should accept that.

Regina…what is your GPA on a 6.0 scale?

For those of you who previously weren’t able to pay the enrollment deposit, it now is working. I paid my son’s $200 deposit earlier tonight.

M2ck, my GPA is a 5.1/6.0 for 10-11th grade, and was a 3.2/4.0 9th grade when I was at a school with a normal grading system. (Yes, just to make things even more confusing, two different grading scales come into play.)

Well, we’re still waiting for D’s transcripts to arrive. We got notice that her unofficial one was ready for her to pick up, so hopefully that means they mailed out the official one finally.

D’s friend applied and got her email with the CWID right away. D never got that, so that got her a little worried. She’s probably going to wait until next week and if there’s no acceptance and CWID by then, she’ll follow up.

So basically no news. However, on a fun side note, I’m ordering the Bama game for this weekend and we’re having a football watching party. Roll Tide!

^My son’s transcript “arrived” at Bama 13 days after it “arrived” everywhere else he sent it. They were all sent on the same day, at the same time, by the same person. So we were guessing that the delay was probably a result of Bama’s “data logging process,” rather than a mail delay. Otherwise, there’d be no way to explain a 13 day gap. We think that maybe his transcript was in a mail room or office somewhere, with a bunch of other admissions mail, and it was just a matter of time before somebody could log it in.

That’s good to know the time frame. Maybe we’ll give it longer than a week, then, before we inquire.

As SimpleLife said, It’s quite possible that your D’s transcript has arrived, been stamped as received, and is just waiting in the queue to be updated onto myBama. The same thing happens at universities around the country/world when there are more documents coming in the mail than there is time to enter them into the computer.
