Application process

^^^

Right. Schools let them “pile up” and then someone sits down and inputs them. They don’t get input as they come in. You’re lucky if yours arrives shortly before someone does that.

Same with AP scores. Collegeboard electronically sends the scores at the end of June, but around mid-July someone sits down and uploads them.

We’ve ordered the game too. It won’t be competitive, but it’ll be a vicarious thrill. And way to represent the 808, Rose! We’ll be listening for your cheers. :)

My son received two pieces of mail from Bama today.

One was a letter from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Executive Director of Enrollment Services, Mary K. Spiegel, saying that he’s been accepted to the University of Alabama and the College of Engineering. It came with a Freshman Student Checklist, a decal, and an Out of State Student notice. (There wasn’t really an acceptance “packet” with housing info, etc, as reported in a much earlier post.)

The other was a large envelope from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, President, Robert E. Witt, with a Certificate of Admission.

For my son, the process worked like this:

Applied Online & Paid Application Fee: August 13
Ordered HS Transcript & SAT/ACT Scores: August 13
Received CWID Email from Bama: August 16
Bama Received SAT & ACT Scores: August 23
Bama Received High School Transcript: August 30
Bama Mailed Letter & Certificate of Acceptance: September 1
Received Letter & Certificate of Acceptance: September 3

My son has not yet applied for the Honors College, nor has he completed his scholarship applications.

This (pretty much “of course”) is his first college acceptance! Yay! He was very cute about opening it.

By the way, we learned something new tonight when my son viewed his Honors College application.

All the data Bama has from your application process is pre-loaded onto the online Honors College application form.

At my son’s high school, class ranks come home with unofficial transcripts after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd 9-weeks. Since ranks don’t come out after the 4th 9-weeks, kids don’t know how their 4th quarter grades affected their class rankings. They don’t find out their class ranks again until the end of the 1st 9-weeks of the following year. (That is, for 6 months, they’re in the dark.)

HOWEVER, after viewing the Honors College application, we now think we know his class rank! Because the form was pre-filled. And where else would they have gotten the rank if it wasn’t from my son’s official transcript? And it’s such a NICE rank.

So that was a really fun surprise.

^^^

Nice…

Will your son be filling out the scholarship app soon? He doesn’t have to wait til he’s accepted.

^Yeah. He’ll probably start the scholarship app this weekend. He generally puts off extra essay-writing for the weekends and reserves school nights for homework, extracurriculars, and music practice.

Also, I wanted to add, regarding the app process … my son’s CWID snail mail letter just came TODAY! Oddly enough. He got the CWID email on August 16th. Snail mail – September 4th. Funny.
