Hey - basic question for you guys. When may son applied to Penn State EA via Common App we thought he had to choose a major (he is actually undecided), so he chose Psych, which we thought might be his best guess. Now I’m seeing many of you mention DUS, which sounds like it might be a better fit for him. Should we change it or does it not really matter at this point?
I’d leave it as Psych., unless he might want to go into engineering or business (Smeal). From what I’ve read recently, DUS is becoming more and more competitive, as people realize it can be a back door entrance into either the engineering or business schools.
That’s really helpful to know. He might want to go into business. He has 1380 SAT & 3.7 unweighted gpa with upward grade trend- any thoughts on likelihood of admission into DUS?
I really don’t know about this year, but in the past he would have been fine for DUS. Did he check yes to the possibility of starting in the summer? I think he would have a good chance for DUS, especially starting in the summer. If by some chance he would be denied for DUS, he could call and request another major.
