AdmissionsDaniel:

Im looking at the "honors and awards" section of the JHU application. There are check boxes for school, city, state...but i won an award in my "district/region of my state", which box should i check?

Check city, as it is closest to district/region.

Do note though that in the entire application, those check boxes are the most important data you provide, so choose wisely. Clearly, I am joking - but I needed to amuse myself after a long day at work. This is just one of those shockingly minor questions that some of you get so concerned with.

I need sleep!

AdmissionsDan:

Can you update us on the mailing of the application packets? I still havent recieved mine yet and it's already the end of August.

Other Ques:

A college review guide said they interviewed you and JHU said that Character/Personal Qualities is the most important thing in an applicant.

When reviewing an applicants transcript, which year is weighted the most? (9,10,11,12)

Does each Adcom have their own way of viewing/interpreting an application?

BTW I think it's soo awsome that you like both Star Wars and Harry Potter. You Rock! They're my favorites too.

I still havent recieved my application too. Has it been sent?

Can you guys LEARN HOW TO READ!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=228474

YES! I can read. But that link to the thread wasnt helpful at all, it had minimal info about the packets!

Update on application mailings:
In mid-August, we began mailing application packets and viewbooks to those seniors who had completed our online request form. These are large "media mail" packets and can take upwards of a month to arrive - and for international students it will take even longer. Additionally, we have thousands of packets to send out and will continue to mail throughout September. Remember, you can always access the application here: http://apply.jhu.edu/apply/application.html

asayedahmad08: I am not sure of any "interview" of mine in a college guide or what you are specifically refrencing. Additionally, if that is what is said it is a misquote - personal qualities are important but in no way are they the "most important."

When reviewing a transcript all years matter, with emphasis being placed on the later junior and senior year as they are more representative of a student's current academic ability.

Each reader has a different way of reading yes, but we are all working towards the same goals.

This blog entry may help: http://hopkins.typepad.com/hopkins_insider/2006/01/three_months_of.html

Asayedahmad08, are you talking about the Common Data Set which lists Character/Personal Qualities as a "Very Important Admissions Factor", along with Recommendations, Rigor of secondary school record and Academic GPA? Daniel, is the information in that Data Set (the "levels" of importance of different factors) correct?

For all intents and purposes, the info in the Common Data Set is accurate. However, I would note that the difference between a "very important" admissions factor and an "important" admissions factor is slight. All 11 of those factors are crucial in the review for myself and my colleagues.

It goes with the theme that our reviews are comprehensive, holistic, and taken into account each section of the application.

Yes that's what it was, thanks!
