Please give me some advises as to how to respond this question in the application. Why do YOU like Columbia?

Obviously I can't give u an answer cuz I'm not you, but one advice is don't make the focus point the location. NY is a great place, but thats such a unsophisticated and simple answer. Think deeper on how Columbia makes you feel.

Connect it to what you can offer the school.

ok, this question is more important than the college essay (I didn't make that up, Dean McKoy said that). You better do your homework on columbia.

really? where? That's interesting

please help, i don't understand what you mean

alright. Well can you answer the question why do you want to go to Columbia? As you've seen most of us are reluctant to tell you why we like Columbia because then it won't be you.

Think about the times you've visited, the stuff you found on the web, the funny stories that alumi have told you. Take all that stuff and write what sense of columbia you get. (assuming that sense is a good one).

Remember, don't write something that average joe could write. You might want to include a brief story that proves your point about Columbia.

I was at an orientation at columbia in october i think. Dean McKoy was doing a presentation. She told the audience that the question is weighted more importantly than the essay. I find it hard to believe though. But whatever the real case is, just do your best on all your questions. The key is, make it personal!

Yapsuper, did you get into Seas or CC? I"m SEAS. I'm assuming you're in class of 2006?

class of 2010*(not 2006-typo)

I got into SEAS. Computer nerd all the way!

yea eskimo

back on topic, like yap said, we are not going to be able to give you an answer, because it'd be our answer not yours. I think the best way to approach this question is just sit down for a bit and brainstorm. for me it was the whoel package, the school, the city and everyone else around it.

its a diffcult question to answer(especially for those doing the online application) and even more diffcult to fake an answer. just be honest and tell them why you want to go there. if its the city then describe how the city ties in with your love for the school.

ps. if you are lucky enough to recieve an interview.. you better be thoroughly prepared for this question, because that'd be your chance to expand your answer (and its a question your interviewer will ask for sure)
