Application question

Some of my applications are asking for my parents position specifically.
All I know about my dad is that he is a security guard, he is not like a manager or anything important. What kind of position would that be???

There may be a listing under Security. But if not put down other.

I doubt they go around making sure your parent actually has such-and-such job. I wonder why they care in the first place? I guess you need to give such information if you're a dependent.

I think its another way to gauge your income level, in addition to all the other clues present in the application. Or to see what level education your parents had, etc.

(nods)

The only reason I'm applying to the places I am and will is because of the fee waivers I can get. :)

How do you get fee waivers? Are they only for certain schools or what?

It depends on how poor you are. I'm pretty sure all schools have it. Most of them just ask you to fill out a form/send in tax forms, etc. For UC, they look at the parents information (or yours if you're independent) and the income; if it's below a certain amount, you're automatically approved. If you don't do this online, there's an option to do it by mail per Help/FAQ on their website.

Yeah I was just wondering. I'm not poor. Although in college admissions that might help. lol

It's awesome being poor. Or from what I know, it seems being poor benefits going to college better than it does being middle-class (in terms of paying for it at least). Hah.

It's also good being rich. :)

Don't even get me started on how ignored the poor middle class is! Poor people get government aid for medical stuff, rich people are rich so they don't need help, but people like my parents (who are middle class but have a lot of debt) can't afford to go to the doctor when they're sick. I mean, I haven't been to the dentist in 2 years! Ok, rant has been finished and I will stop complaining :P. Oh, and I know being "poor" is not easy by any means and they really deserve the aid that they get...so please don't yell at me :).

Oh yah, that makes sense. We used to be middle class and we were totally screwed because of all the college tuition my parents had to pay for. :( :( :(

There actually were a lot of Dateline or 20/20 programs regarding the whole middle-class-inability-to-pay-for-college deal going on for a while, too.

My dad figured out too late that if he made a certain amount less than he was already making to qualify my brothers for financial aid, he wouldn't be in as much debt as he is now.
