Just to make sure: if I participated in a state competition (and got an approval or whatever), I am supposed to indicate "state" at the level on distinction, right?

Anybody? Maybe the question is too silly?

aw5k, as I recall you are an international applicant? (If not, ignore the following answer. :) ) For internationals, "state" may not mean what it means here. Here, a "state" award would be more impressive than a "regional" award (hence the order of the check boxes on the application), but you would have to determine how they would rank in your own case.

Perhaps you can include a note in one of the "completely optional" sections to describe the award and its significance.

Yes, I am international. And here, state is more impressive than regional, too. I was just wondering about the definition of "distinction". Basically, I just need to have participated (and won a prize or approval or something else), am I wrong?

That would be my understanding also, yes.

Yeah, make sure you're clear on what the award is... I'd avoid uncommonly known abbreviations (especially for international applicants), maybe make a note of it in your second optional?

oh, so we should indicate the award? I would have just indicated the name of the competition and the level of distinction...
