Hi,
I'm a new member and I just have an important question: Is it okay if I used the JHU app for Part I and II, but the additional forms (counselor and teacher evals, midyear school report, etc.) from the commonapp?

Thank you

Hi,

To apply to Johns Hopkins University you must have submitted either the Johns Hopkins University application Part I and Part II OR the Common Application and Johns Hopkins Common Application supplement. It is important that you don't mix the applications and apply with both the Part I and Part II of the JHU application or the Common App. and Hopkins supplement.

You are able to use Common Application school report and teacher recommendation forms with the Johns Hopkins application, and vice versa. So in your case there will be no problems.

Cheers!

Is there any disadvantage in choosing to use the common application over the JHU application?

No, there is no preference given to Common App. nor JHU App. In fact, whenever a school agrees to accept the Common App. the Admissions staff at that school must sign a agreement that states they will not have a preference of their app. over the common app. It is a fairness agreement that comes as part of the Common App.

So, when a school does have a preference they are breaking that agreement. Do schools do that? Unfortunately, yes. Does Hopkins? Absolutely not. We really don't care, and in fact have designed our school application to be similar to the Common App. Plus we are able to have our own supplement.

Cheers!

in fact i've heard that the person who created the Online Common App is actually one of the JHU's alumni
