When applying with a college's specific application, do all colleges accept a teacher recommendation in the teacher's own format, attached to the application?

As I recall some had their own teacher rec forms. Read the fine print and be sure to look at all the forms available for download.

Another question: daughter is off today from her internship and wants to do the app for her first choice school. The online requires filling out the application form with the applicant info and submitting before the recommendation forms become available on the computer. Is it too early to be submitting anything? I understand her reasoning because she is working so much and the internship and project are so time-consuming, but I wonder if it isn't too early.

I don't know. Probably her guidance office isn't quite ready yet either. They need to send transcripts and their letter of recommendation. Probably best to give them a call. It certainly is not to ready to be all ready though, with essays, personal statement, and resume ready to go (since that's the hard stuff!).

You can submit an app as soon as a college first starts taking them. Doing it earlier rather than later is a discipline many should follow because too many end up rushing to get things done at the end. Your app, though submitted, will not be deemed complete until all required items are submitted, including transcript, test scores, and, if required, recommendations and thus it will not be reviewed for admission purposes unless it is complete. Thus, there is no downside to doing it now and submitting recs later.

Also, just be aware that whether recs are even required or wanted depends on college. For example, most state colleges neither require them nor rely on them if sent.

Sorry. I didn't explain that well. In order to obtain the rec forms, one must submit the applicant info portion of the form. You hit "submit" and then the rec and supplemental forms' links appear on your screen. in other words, you can't get those forms till you hit "submit."

As long as everything is submitted before deadline, the fact that you get the forms now after applying but cannot get them done until teachers return in Aug/Sep really does not make a difference. However:

You do not mention which college. Make sure before submitting the app that the college is taking them now. Many do not start taking apps until later. Moreover, sometimes such a school still has its app from last year on-line and applicants fail to realize the new one is not up and the old form cannot be used for this year.

It's this year's app. I think I'm going to tell her to wait. It stinks that they don't have a log-in feature where you can start it, save it, and then submit the application later.
