I've recently applied to the University of Florida and Florida State University, but have not yet taken my SAT. I was wondering if colleges process your application by the date it was submitted, incomplete without your test scores; or perhaps on the date that all of your materials were received? For example: If I applied to a college on November 15th but did not submit all of my materials in their entirety until December 29th, would my application be considered as being submitted on November 15th or December 29th?

For what purpose are you asking? And what do you mean by "processed"? A file could be started for you when the school receives the first piece of paper, or it could be started when the school receives your app. So your application is "processed."

However, it will not be reviewed until all required materials are received. It will be considered incomplete until then.

So why does it matter when your application was "submitted"?

For the purpose that I have no clue how the process works, haha.

I always thought that once your application was submitted and the admissions department got around to reviewing it, they would review it based on the application alone. After reviewing it, they would then quarantine your application until all materials are received, and then base the application on its entirety on whether they will grant you admission.

I was also curious to know why because FSU has three separate deadlines, and I was wondering that if I don't have all of my materials together by, say, January 15th...will I be rolled over to the next deadline being, say, March 1st?

Generally speaking, as I understand it, an application is not reveiwed until it is "complete" -- that would be when all the required documents are in place.

As for rolling over into the next deadline if an application isn't complete, I don't know, but it seems like the logical thing to happen.

Complete* applications received by the following dates will be mailed decision letters on the corresponding notification date.

Complete* Application Received By: Decision Available On:
October 10, 2007 November 28, 2007
January 2, 2008 February 20, 2008
February 13, 2008 April 2, 2008

A complete application consists of the following materials:
Application, Application fee ($30), Official transcripts, Official SAT/ACT exam scores, and Essay.

Their requirements are quite clear: the only thing that matters is the date by which your application was completed. The day they got your application is irrelevant.

Also, for FSU, "complete" means "received by", not "postmarked by". Therefore, your deadline to mail anything must be at least one week before the received deadline to ensure that it is actually received.

It also means that your incomplete application will be rolled over and considered in the batch with the next "completed by" date.

This took me less than 2 minutes to find on FSU's website.
