Application Question

I'm a junior right now and I'm looking to apply for the fall of 09. I took the SAT already but I want to retake it and I also want to take the ACT this fall. Am I at a disadvantage if I wait until mid-August/September to apply?? I really want to apply as early as possible but I have to wait until school starts so I can get my transcript and everything. What is the latest I can apply by so I still have a chance of getting into the dorm of my choice?

I need advice on whether to go ahead and start the application process now before getting the SAT scores that I want and doing other things like getting transcripts and letters of recommendation from teachers.

Thanks in advance for any input. =)

It helps to apply as soon as possible to get a better date to apply for your dorm. I applied last summer right when the application came on line and then took the SAT's again in October and my score went up substantially over my original application. I was worried because I had already received notice that my application had a preliminary review. Also, when I applied some of the classes I thought I was taking my senior year changed when I actually received my senior schedule. That wasn't a problem and Admissions assured me that scores are accepted until December and my highest SAT score would be factored in. I felt like by applying early my essay might be looked at more closely than if I waited until deadline time with thousands of other applications coming in and only a couple of months until decision time. You have to do what you feel is best for you though. Most of my friends, even with later application dates still got the dorms they wanted so it may not make any difference. Good Luck to you!

UF doesn't want letters of recommendation anyway. I applied in October, I believe, and I got my second-choice dorm with my chosen roommate [my preference was roommate]. Mid-August/September is a FINE time to apply.

I agree about the letters of recommendation...probably just a waste of time. A little advice....after applying and requesting transcripts be sent....check back with UF often and make sure everything has been received including most recent SAT's/ACT's. Don't assume that because you requested they get sent it will happen.

Thanks for the advice. Do you guys have any other tips for applying to make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible?

double check your application (I actually checked it like 3 times and my dad checked it once) Someone in my school wanted to apply for fall but by mistake applied for summer...don't do that! And alot of people have housing messed up b/c they paid their $25 too late after sending in their application. As soon as you get the email telling you to apply, do it! At first, I thought this meant I had to choose what dorms I wanted, but it's not...all you have to do is pay. And also call/email UF to check if they have your application, your additional papers (i.e. transcripts, i had to send immigration papers e.t.c). Also, if you have everything done, except your SAT just send your application in. That way you won't have to rush to send everything in (I know people who waited until the deadline to fill in/send their application--bad idea)--coz if you realize later that you filled something in wrong or whatever, you still have time to call UF and fix it.
