I read somewhere on CC that UC disregards activities from high school. Is this true? I graduated in 2008.

Also, are there any transfers who participated/or is in the Experience Berkeley Program? Just wondering!

True.

It’s weird though why does the UC app make us tell them what we did 9th-12th?

The Foothill transfer center told me today that UC considers activities from high school. However, only the most significant (ones that support your application’s theme).

She even said they don’t put heavy emphasis on activities for UC transfers.

I don’t believe that there is a spot in the application for Highschool EC’s. However, I would suggest working it into your personal statement (if, like regent57 said, they pertain to your focus and the rest of your application).

I am currently at Cal. A junior transfer Political Science major.

I participated in the Starting Point Mentorship Program at Cal. I am not sure what the ‘experience program’ is.

@KelliC03 - How do you apply for that program?

@Kelli
Actually there is.

@Kelli Yes there is! Don’t reply if you don’t know.

Well, I heard today just being part of something like Speech and Debate Club in college raises your transfer chances by 15%

^ and yet UCs don’t transfer Speech classes (well, certain ones, anyhow. like the one i’m taking now.). which i would think, suggest the interest of the student of communicating succinctly. but then again - i guess it’s different from a CLUB than a CLASS. class is a less of a commitment.

I know Berkeley takes a holistic approach for review. They consider activities in the context of your life. Some have jobs or family responsibilities, and they’ll understand …as long as you’re productive.

I found out about Experience Berkeley Program through my honors program. They work at Stiles Hall at Cal, comprised of experts in the reading process who guide transfers (typically Black/Chicano/Native) during the app period. “80% success rate”

i believe LA also takes holistic review.r

sorry if this seems off topic to the OP: but do family responsibilities have much impact, really? i mean - okay. it’s a rather sensitive topic and without getting much into it, i have my own hand at family duties… but it seems like - EVERY family would have their own issues, no? correct me if i’m wrong. which i most likely am XD.

Guess I’m not getting into Berk lol. I have a 3.8, but just play video games all day.

Edit: You look at the application already?

@christian612, I’m going to be honest with you. If that’s all you do, even if you do get in Cal, don’t. You’re not gonna graduate without getting out of that habit.

I was referring more to things like ECs/going out. When it comes to my actual schoolwork, I always get things done.
