Application Questions / Official Transcript?

Hey all, My USNA application is complete just have a quick question or two.

1.) I know for a fact my guidance counselor submitted the email High School Transcript request form, and on my Candidate Information page it shows it as being submitted with the date it was submitted on but out beside it it says "Waiting for Official Transcript". what does this mean? how is the official one different than what they sent my guidance counselor to submit?

2.) Also I have contacted my BGO for an interview but have not heard anything back yet, I was wondering if this interview is even necessary for my file since I attended NASS and had an interview there with my squad leader that was added to my file?

3.) in submitting Standardized Tests scores, my school has no record of them as far as I know of, I have copies of the originals, would it suffice to merely take these copies and get them signed by my school counselor and fax them to USNA?

any info would be greatly appreciated thanks.

if it says "waiting for official transcript" it should mean that your counslor recieved and replied the email that he/she got, but your counslor haven't sent out the actual transcript. my counslor sent mine out, and it took about two/three weeks until USNA recieved it. also, for your standarized test scores, they should be on your transcript, should they not? if they are, just wait til they get the transcript and your scores will be posted. whenever they recieved my transcript, they added another ACT score that they didn't have already to that little section.

SAT scores and AP scores are sent to the USNA directly from the College Board. If you took the SAT or any AP exams, you had an opportunity to designate which schools you wanted your scores sent to. If you did not list USNA at that time you can still contact the College Board (collegeboard.com) and request the scores be sent to USNA (for an additional fee). I am not familiar with the ACTs procedures, sorry.

You will need to interview with a BGO. I cannot list the topics/issues they cover -- my plebe met in private with the BGO and we did not ask for specifics of their discussion. There are BGOs who post here and they can give you more information.

The admissions office needs to receive an official copy of your transcript. Official means that they are looking for a hardcopy with a raised seal or inked seal signed by the school registrar or another school official.

Completion of the BGO interview is required before your file will be briefed to the admissions board. This interview is different from the NASS interview. The BGO interview covers topics such as your understanding of plebe year, the honor concept, and the service commitment after graduation from USNA. The interview also covers your potential major and service selection. The BGO will also ask questions about your use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and whether or not you have any tatoos and/or body piercings.

Your school should have a copy of your SAT / ACT scores on file. The testing agencies send scores to the school you listed on the registration form (i.e., ETS code). SAT and ACT test scores need to be sent to USNA directly from the College Board. The admissions office will also accept the scores if they are listed on your official transcript. Most high schools include SAT and ACT scores along with high school rank on the transcript.

I'd try to contact your BGO at least one more time. He/she may be on vacation, traveling on business, sick, etc. If you make a couple of efforts and still don't hear back, you can contact your Area Coordinator who can intercede. However, I wouldn't contact the Area Coordinator until you have completed at least 1/3 of your packet. Some BGOs don't schedule interviews until candidates have completed a certain percentage of their application. That's not, BTW, an excuse for a BGO not contacting a candidate earlier in the process -- just a recognition of fact that BGOs tend to prioritize interviews based on their status.

Yes, a BGO interview is mandatory; the admissions board won't consider your application until it's done. There are certain topics that BGOs are asked to cover. However, there is no script or other set list of questions that we're required to ask. Some of the content may depend on the candidate him/herself.

My suggestion is that you look at the interview as a chance to learn more about USNA. It's not a "quiz"; there really aren't right & wrong answers. As with all interviews in life, being yourself is the best advice.
