Application questions

On the application booklet, it says:
"Make every effort to enclose all required application
materials in the envelope provided. Items not included should be faxed."
By application materials, do they mean essays, list of classes,
list of ECs, etc or does it mean including everything
like teacher recs, transcript, etc?
Thanks.

Teacher recommendations and transcripts can be sent individually. (that's what i did because I did the online application) but you can also probably stick it in the envelope, it wouldn't hurt it any. Just make sure you put your name clearly and social security or usc id number on it so it wouldn't get mixed up

My S had all his app materials (other than Part I & Part II & check) sent in one manila envelope that he addressed & had the HS counselor mail out with all the recs, transcript, HS profile, etc). Seems to have worked well, since he & many of his HS classmates were accepted & are now students at USC.

I just tossed everything in to that one envelope, including the SEALED official transcript (it should be sealed with the school's tape, pressed with the school's seal if they have one, and signed on the back), plus photocopies of my SAT and AP score reports.

The teacher rec was the only thing sent separately, which makes sense considering you're not supposed to see it (if you signed it). Also, it's only polite to give your teachers the already addressed, postage applied envelope.

At our kid's HS, the counselor will mail in the packet if you ask the teachers if they will be willing to give the counselor their recs to include in the packet. This way, the envelope is clearly being mailed by the school rather than the student. The student is to provide the addressed, stamped envelopes (3 stamps for all those pages).

So you can just give teachers an envelope (does it
have to be a manila envelope?) and stamps
and send them in separately?

It's best to put the ID stickers on each sheet of paper you want the school to receive--give extras to the counselor so s/he can slap them on the transcript, HS profile & any other docs. It's best to give a large envelope so all the docs can fit in without being squashed & overly folded; the HS recommended manila-type envelope so that's what S gave the counselor for all schools he applied to. They're pretty inexpensive & you can even buy such envelopes at the post office if needed or any drug store & most markets.
