Hi, I am going to be a senior this fall and want to apply to columbia early decision this fall and I have a few questions:
First off, what kind of questions do the interviewers ask you (i would appreciate a few specific examples)
Also, when does columbia actually release its application? (i know they say september 1st but do they do it earlier)
I truly appreciate responses

columbia's app is already up! just check out their website.

and i don't know about interviews sorry.

The 2008-2009 application isn't posted yet. You can only look at last year's application. I don't think it changes much from year to year, so check out the 2007-2008 one, which should give you a good idea of what to expect.

My bad, they actually did post the essay topic already for the 2008-2009 app.

Write an essay which conveys to the reader a sense of who you are. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to, experiences which have shaped your life, the circumstances of your upbringing, your most meaningful intellectual achievement, the way you see the world – the people in it, events great and small, everyday life – or any personal theme which appeals to your imagination.

It's exactly the same as last year's. Start brainstorming!

The alumni interview I had was more a conversation than an interview. He asked me the basics about my background, interests, etc... and also why I applied to Columbia. Pretty soon we were talking about books we both liked and the big differences between New York and New Mexico (where I live). He'd jot down stuff every once in a while on a form that he sent back I"m guessing he had some basic inquiries from the school in the folder he had one me. Of course I'm sure every alumni interviewer will be different.

From the 3 interviews I had for different schools, the one thing I was told by all three was that the interview was a chance for me to impress upon them what the paper application missed. I tried to show my enthusiasm for music, for example. All three were very low-pressure. Just wear some nice clothes, smile, and be honest.

where did they post that essay topic?

nvrmnd, found it.
