Application Questions

I know I'll think of more then 1...but heres my first one:

1) How long are the short responses suppose to be? I could write essays on those topics!

Hey, hey!

My longest was a page, double-spaced, 12 point font. I would try to keep it to about that length. I mean, they don’t specify…but they should be shorter than your real personal statement. I know it’s hard, but they want to see that you can express yourself concisely!

Good luck!

Okay, here is the next one :)

I wrote my personal essay, its a narrative story. So this means its option 6 ‘topic of your choice.’ Do I indicated that in a title or something?

Ah okay - yes, it does mean it’s topic of your choice (the wise topic, in my opinion), but generally it’s optional whether you give it a title. I would suggest doing so if you can come up with a clever one mainly because in choosing option 6, your essay doesn’t have a prompt.
I’m 99% sure I titled my personal essay (but you don’t have to title other short essays on the supplement – they all have prompts)

Do you think they count it in the word count? I’m at 500 words exactly and I love my essay  :)

I think most colleges actually don’t give a damn about word count, provided it’s between 500 and 750 words…so you’re good! :-)

By the way - unless there’s some sort of automatic character counter (like with the CommonApp entry blanks), they’re not really counting…it’s all approximate!

Wow!! This is I did not know!! I cut my essay down from 627, oh welllll. I have now been writing my short response answers. I need to send my app in by October 14th :/
Random question- what do you hear about the Bryan scholarship?

Pumplemousse,

What is your question about the Bryan Scholarship? Nominations by individual high schools and Davidson coaches are already in. Complete applications need to be received by Davidson no later than October 15th. Finalists on campus Nov1st, and decisions by Nov 15th (more or less).

Ohh I actually meant to type Belk, my bad. I have been nominated for the Bryan and am busily writing essays right now.

oh oh oh!!! do i need to put the authors of the books i read???

Yeah, I would! :)

Okay, phew! I sent in my application yesterday, its a relief to have that done! I’m really cutting it down to the wire though, its apparently going to arrive at 3pm and its due at 5pm, I sure hope no major catastrophes occur in the next 24 hours!

Congratulations! Don’t worry, though! I even know current students who got the application in after the deadline! The admissions committee is very forgiving and knows what kind of stress all the seniors are under! Besides, you made it in on time :)

Good work! Rejoice! All you have to do is wait, now! And you’ll know way earlier than your peers! Right now, you should just use this time to focus on school work and also to start outlining essays for back-up applications in case you’re deferred or denied admission. Good luck to you!! I really hope we see you next fall!
