Application Selection help between UBC and Boston University

Hi everyone. I am debating on whether I should apply to the University of British Columbia or Boston University. because I paln to go into business finance and economics. I like UBC because Saucer is a top business school in the world. UBC is also located in Vancouver, which is one of my favorite cities in the world. I like Boston because their business program is great at business finance. The problem lies with the application fee. I only have money for one school and I don’t know which one to choose. I have a 26 ACT composite score and my super score is a 27. I believe I have a better chance at getting into UBC with these scores, but I know that UBC does not give out much in scholarships. Furthermore, UBC is foreign, so they would not accept U.S. financial aid or some scholarships I qualify for. On the other hand, Boston University is more of a stretch for me but it would be more affordable. What is the rational choice for me? Any help is appreciated.

You can’t obtain a fee waiver?

Not that I know of. I could do more research on it but since UBC has rolling admissions, I would like to apply as soon as possible.

Also, I have a 3.67 uw G.P.A. and a 4.17 w G.P.A. By the end of the year, I will have taken 4 A.P. classes throughout my high school career as well as 7+ accelerated classes. I have done many ECs throughout high school and I am president of 3 different clubs right now. I have also become an international finalist in DECA competitions just to name some accomplishments. Can someone calculate my chances for these schools as well?

Your ACT is significantly below average for admitted students at BU (31). I don’t know what your chances would be like, but they’re probably not high. If you can only apply to one school, I’d apply to a school that I was certain I’d be admitted to. I’d suggest talking to a counselor or someone at your school to get a fee waiver.

If you are that short of money you will never be able to afford UBC. Canada requires that you provide proof of your ability to pay before you are granted a student visa.

UBC gives virtually no need based aid to internationals and your stats would not get you merit aid there.

I think you should add some safety schools.

Safety schools are not an issue. I have already been accepted into schools and I consider IU and CU-Boulder to be my top safety choice schools. I was basically basing my admission chances off of scatter grams. I know that is not the best thing to do, but since I have applied to a significant amount of safety schools, I’m just applying to schools that are slightly out of my reach that have good business programs. My major just about forces me to go to a school that specializes in it, otherwise, I will not have a decent job after graduation. With this feedback, I feel like I should not apply to either of the two schools. Again, thank you all for the help, but I guess now my question is will a significant EC resume and a rigorous high school course load put me in the lower 25% for admission into these schools?
