Application Status check

Does NYU have one of these? Can't find one on the website...

no, you have to call to get any sort of information. I know... it sucks.

My D called the other day bc we were having some issues where her GC said he sent out all of her stuff to all of her colleges and then upon calling Ithaca we found out he neglected to include the Secondary School Report and the GC rec. So, after talking her down from the prospect of committing a violent crime against guidance counselors, I had her call all the schools bc apparently our particular GC needs a babysitter.

Long story short, NYU had a recording that said they cannot give out info on the status of apps or whether or not all documents have been recieved due to the large volume of apps and upcoming deadline. They went on to say that should an applicant be missing any info they will be notified by mail in the beginning of March. This makes me nervous...

I guess they feel that they get too many applications to keep track or update you. Other schools seem to be able to handle it though.

When I applied a few months ago for ED I just went ahead and got hold of a person anyway. Once they are on the line, they might as well tell you your status, and just make sure to explain your situation about the guidance counselor.

BTW, never trust guidance counselors with anything, especially at a large public school like mine. My GC lost my transcript twice for a summer program, so I decided to Fedex all my college app materials myself.

To continue the saga...my D approached the GC on this matter and he said that Ithaca must be mistaken he is sure they would have mailed out everything and that she should not worry about it!! ***? He did not offer to re-send anything. The problem we have is that one of the things missing is the GC rec and if he is maintaining that it was sent and refusing to send another IDK what can be done. Worst part is he is a sub GC and this is his last week!! Her previous GC left in October and left all of D's recs and paperwork in a folder, the sub GC told D he threw it out. He said it didn't look like anything of importance to him. This has been a total mess.

I just told D that we will resend everything that is in our power to send to Ithaca and NYU just to be on the safe side. The main problem is that her school is so rural that only about 50% of seniors apply to school at all and of those probably at least 90% only apply to the local community colleges (which the GC's came into their classes and told them that they should only apply to CC's bc even the SUNY schools were too hard for them to get into). So basically it boils down to laziness on the part of the GC's at our school.

Just went through this and since my D applied ED, I was quite paranoid about all the documents being in place. No need to worry, NYU is really good about sending out letters with missing materials. If nothing is missing you won't hear a thing. She did not and was admitted in Dec.

I feel for you however, especially dealing with a sub GC. Is there a dean or other administrator you could talk to and offer them to FedEx copies yourself? Sometimes just a phone call can make a big difference, especially when GC's are not familiar with the path you are pursuing (we were somewhat in this boat as most students at my D's school are applying to academic colleges, not BFA's as she was).

Well, I am very proud of D today. She went back to the GC's office and told the sub the whole story again and again there was a denial that anything was out of order. He then tried to tell her that she never gave him the paperwork and she told him all of the necessary documents were left IN A FOLDER in her file by the previous GC in OCTOBER!!!! At this point he switched to telling her he didn't believe that Ithaca and NYU wouldn't have the paperwork and said he was calling NYU himself. She insisted all paperwork be sent again, he said when he was an admission counselor at RPI (yeah can you believe that?) he hated getting double copies of things because it was SOOOOO confusing. She insisted and said that she would rather they are confused than not have the right stuff at all. Finally, he relented and she watched him package all the stuff although he then said the secretary was out for a few days and would not be able to type the rec for him. LOL, she told him she was pretty sure he could manage it on his own. He did it and the stuff should be in the mail to Ithaca and NYU.

Oh and the best part was at one point (after much discussion) he said something about sending the stuff to Utica College. SHE IS APPLYING TO ITHACA!!!! (for the millionth time)

This is the same GC, who when hearing she was accepted at SUNY Potsdam, said "good, bc you probably won't get in anywhere else". To my 4.0 student, with lots of ECs, and excellent recs he is saying she won't even get into another SUNY!!

Agh Mom, good for your D to be persistent!

She has been great through this whole thing. I know that is how it should be but rarely is. The GC has her so stressed out!! When the former GC was here she promised her app fee waivers but when this guy arrived he claimed that there was no such thing as a fee waiver!!! He tried to give her an SAT fee waiver and told her that was the only such thing that existed. Needless to say she found her own NACAC (SP?) waiver form online as well as the SUNY waiver form and took them in and stood over him while he signed it bc she didn't trust him to do it when she wasn't there. Then I called him to follow up and he said "you know you will have to prove your income", like we were trying to get away with something!!! I am sorry if my D doesn't look or act low income enough for him!!!

I will be soooooooooooooooooooooooo happy when this is over!!!

You should really tell the superatendant about this guy. If he were my GC and responsible, I would be ****ed and would try to get him fired as soon as possible, even if he only has a week left so that he won't mess up anyone else either.
