Application Status (webcheck)

So, I sent my application stuff about a week to a week and a half ago. I read that they could not answer questions about individual applications, or their status, so I thought I might ask CCers how long it took you to recieve your login info. to check your application status.

I wouldnt be so worried had I sent everything online, but I sent the supplement, and other things via snail mail.

(sorry for any typos and lack of punctuation ahead of time)

They can answer questions about individual applications. At least they could for early decision. I called them to make sure they had received everything, and the lady checked the database and within 15 seconds told me everything was complete. I would wait and call them when the offices open again after Christmas, but I'm not sure when that is.

Unless they specifically stated that they can't answer questions... but that would be silly.

i dont think i even recieved my info stuff yet

Oh and it took over 3 weeks for me to get my link/login info. I sent in my app in the last week of October and got the link on 11/21. I would imagine it'll take longer for RD since the applicant pool is several times larger.

I applied Dec 1 and have gotten nothing. a little bit impatient...

This is taken from Rice's Application Status page (I applied ED, so I received my Login and PIN around Thanksgiving):

"Take a look below to see which of the required application materials Rice has received. Because updates are made regularly, check periodically for more information. Please remember to allow time for Rice to process your documents after they have been received (whether via postal service, fax, or electronically). We expect to be current on posting application materials by the dates below.
Transfer applicants for Spring 2008 posted by October 23
Early Decision applicants for Fall 2008 posted by November 6
Regular Decision applicants for Fall 2008 posted by January 14"

So, for RD applicants - Jan. 14th; hope this helps with the wait!

The university is pretty well shut down for the Christmas holidays; students at home, staff at home. It's hard to be patient, but I think you are going to have to be ;)

Wait... then maybe I misunderstood... I thought that I would be able to check on what they've received, before the deadline. I just have no trust in USPS, and want to be sure that they receive all my application materials.

Then, I must have the wrong idea of what it's used for, because knowing that they didn't receive something after the deadline won't help. What exactly is the application status page for then?

I would just call, but I would like to spare myself the cost of a long-distance phone call, because I'm out of the country (Mexico) until I go back to school. I'll probably end up calling, but can somebody explaine what the status page is for?

Thank you all for the help!

The status page is used to check on which items the admissions office has received and which items Rice has not received. Eventually, the page can be used to check your admissions decision, your personal financial aid information (I understand that the fin. aid part does not come until much later in the spring), and (if you're admitted) to accept or decline Rice's offer of admission.

Good luck!

Although the application has to be in by the deadline, the admissions office is understanding about missing items, such as references. They won't throw your application out because your Guidance Counselor's recommendation hasn't arrived yet. They know that sometimes things go missing or get misfiled. If your file is incomplete in early January, you'll be able to fix the problem. I remember my DD had missing things from several colleges she applied to, due to one teacher forgetting to send recs, and other things disappearing in the colleges admissions files. It was not a problem and she resent the missing items, even though the official deadline had passed.

Oh, that's good to hear. Thanks anxiousmom, it certainly makes me feel better!

Yeah most colleges are forgiving about that, just make sure your part is sent in on time :)

the most vital thing is to have the common app in by the deadline.

And don't forget the application fee or fee waiver!
