Is there a way to check it? I've been hunting all over the HMC site and the internetz and can't find a link. Do they just directly inform you of what's missing later on?

No status links that I'm aware of, and your decision comes by snail mail. I also don't recall a confirmation message on receipt of the application, but geek_son might have received one and not told me. If your file is incomplete, they will email you about the missing documents within a few weeks after your submission.

If you have a specific reason to be concerned about the status of your app, it doesn't hurt to call and inquire politely. geek_son and I both found the Admission Staff very pleasant and helpful. Just don't be an adcom stalker; April will be here before you know it. :) Good luck!

An email was sent to my son on Jan. 15, saying that his regular decision Harvey Mudd application was complete. He submitted his application a day or two before the deadline. Good luck!

I think they send emails out to international applicants, but other applicants have to wait for the snail mail.

When I called a few weeks ago they said they would e-mail us if something in our application was missing i.e. transcript. The admissions lady didn't mention anything about a confirmation.

I'll just have to wait it out then.
Thanks everybody. :)

I got a letter that something was missing. They did not inform me when my file was complete, I sent the admissions rep an email and she got back very promptly. You may want to try that if you haven't heard back yet.

We received an email on January 16th saying the application was complete. You might want to check any alternate email addresses you may have used. My D has been writing her personal email address on all her applications but for some reason the Harvey Mudd email came to one of my (the Mom) email accounts. The emails we have gotten from Harvey Mudd contain a lot of extra "?". I'm just curious as to why the question marks are in the emails.

Generally an out-of-place ? means that the writer was using special characters from an expansive character set (e.g. Unicode) but the message was converted into a character encoding that doesn't support some of the characters used (e.g. ASCII), or the font in use doesn't include some of the characters. It's usually something trivial, like a curly quotation mark.

Thanks for the explanation. These particular emails with the extra ? came to a Hotmail account.

Yesterday or the day before my D said she got an email on her email account from HMC related to a math contest scholarship. i didn't read the email so I'm not sure exactly what it said.

From the context of the message, all applicants (including those already admitted) received that email message. It was about this departmental scholarship: The RIF Scholarship

I'm not sure whether I should apply for that or not since I only got into Math Club and competition stuff this year. I guess the classes that I have taken / am taking could make up for that.

Cider, can't hurt to apply... the worst they can do is give it to somebody else, and nobody knows what the applicant pool will look like each year. :)
