Application stuff...

Can you have your teachers mail in recs before you actually send in your application? or since you dont have a folder open, everything gets messed up?

S put the request to have his sat scores sent out the 3rd week of August. He did not have a file opened yet. No sat scores were lost. He did have his recs sent along with transcripts and school's profile through his guidance office. This put everything in one envelope. He only wrote one paper application which was included, and any necessary paper supplements to the common app were put into one envelope as well. Only one school lost one pce. of info. One school lost his transcript. Naturally, as luck would have it, it was a rolling admission school, and his hs faxed a second transcript to them. Hope this helps. BTW, he did not use the free sat score reports for fear of the school losing scores since he sat for his sats in the spring of junior year.

I think you should be fine. If you're worried though, email the admissions office to let them know only your recs are coming first, and ask how you'll know if they successfully received it.

melli, that is a good idea. Many schools will send postcards/letters to tell you that they have gotten everything, or what is missing. My S made a chart, and then called schools that did not send out letters to verify that everything was in his app file.

I'm guess that's why you have to put your SSN on everything... to open a file?
