Application Tips

What do you suggest doing in your application to stand out? In general, how do you make your application more memorable?

Do you recommend writing a resum

1.) Ifeveryone were exceptional, the world would have been a realcrazy place. Point out your fortes and strong points. I was good at Physics...and I made it obvious by writing on the Olympiads and Competitive exams ive won. Noone's exceptional...some are just better at certain thing.

2.) Depends on you. If you think writing a resume would do justice to your accolades, please go ahead. But, there is a place called "additional information" where you can mention your achievments in detail (thats what i did).

3.) Yes...adcoms are annoyed by uneccessary papers. If you really have something good, then send it. But, a fourth grade science report ain't gonna go down well with them buddy.

4.) Depends on you again. My one essay was on my relationship with my mom...i said how she's not only my mom, but my best friend. My other was on the importance of hard-work in my road to success. The two were totally different, one actually let them see into my mind as a person...the other as a student.

Good Luck.

what about a photo? I know they are never really required, but I have seen some applications that ask for an optional photo. Does this qualify as an annoyance?

(or is the answer as simple as: if it asks, send. If not, don't :p)

leobag, if your a hot-looking male/female...do send, after all adcoms also have hormones ;). You never know...

But on a more seriosu note, It has no bearing on your chances of admission.

i'm too sexy for this application.

DON'T include a r

I can't believe that the process is starting over again for a new bunch of students! CRAZY!

DON'T include a r

i think it's very important to illuminate your passion in your essays. not literally saying how much you want to be accepted though.. you know what i mean?

i sent an ilr specific resume. It worked.

do what ever possible u can , present ur case, ur not just another student looking for a good school, u don't push u don't go to the top of the pile. admissions is going to be even harder next year.

I was accepted by the hotel school through ED last November and had included a resume with my application. Take advantage of this and highlight the strengths that you were not able to in the actual application.

An interview might be good because it shows your extended interest in the school. Some of the schools require interviews so be sure to check if the school you plan on applying to does.

I don't think a photo will make or break your application but if you'd like, you can add that in with your application or bring it to your interview if you have one.

Agree with above posters. Don't waste time-- specialise. Show your commitment to the college you're applying to and focus on how you can contribute to it specifically-- at the very least, it shows that you aren't applying "for the heck of it" and you actually know what you want from the college and what you can bring to it. For the hotel school, previous internship experience is a definite boost. :)

Thanks for your advise! I'm looking to apply to CALS...so I am hoping my research will help me.
Also, are the new applications out yet? If so, where can I find them? (I am bad w/ navigating these places...)
Thanks again!
