Application turn-around times

ACT COMP - 30, MATH - 30, (HIGHEST) ENG 34

Can anyone explain to me the processes colleges use in admission? In particular, how admission is completed, and what could possibly cause a delay in application processing. The reason I ask is because I applied to MSU in late September, my last ACT was in by October 5th, and I have yet to receive a decision. While I realize college admission decisions typically take eight to twelve weeks, how does one explain the many acceptance letters to students who have turned in their applications in the past two weeks? Does MSU observe what it's highs and lows are before they make decisions on people like me who are borderline?

Most colleges have a way of sorting the applicants, like doing people with a last name that starts with ‘a’ first or doing the applications submitted first, etc. This college may well just send the first acceptance letters to the applicants they reviewed first. However, I’m just a high school senior, and I really don’t know much about what adcoms do when they are “on the fence” about someone. Wait a week or two and if your acceptance/denial letter hasn’t come yet, contact the school to be sure your letter wasn’t lost in the mail!

what do you think my chances for state are, though?
