I was just curious about what it would look like to get each decision. If you got denied, accepted or deferred EA, what message is shown for each? Thank in advance for posting responses.
It will literally state either denied, accepted, or deferred.
@Asabem- if you are accepted, it will list the college. UMN admits to colleges/schools and not the the major or to the university as a whole. What program of study are you pursuing?
@JBStillFlying I applied for Computer Science in the Engineering college. A day after I made the post, I saw that I was deferred. Is this common with early action? I wasn’t sure if I’d get in if the school mostly focuses on stats and numbers.
@Aasabem GPA/class rank, course work and test scores are all primary factors in considering applicants to admission to UMN. CSE in particular admits applicants with stellar stats. Just go ahead and follow any directions they give you now that you have been deferred. That outcome is pretty common since a good majority of applicants to CSE will ultimately be waitlisted or denied. Many applying to one of the more selective programs will specify a second college as backup and that always helps ones chances to UMN overall.
This is the message for being deferred
Defer: Our committee has completed its holistic review of your application and has not yet made a final decision. Applicants who are deferred are neither admitted nor denied, and will be reconsidered for admission. Our additional review will focus on your application materials, the competitiveness of the pool of applications submitted, and the number of spaces available in each college. You do not need to take further action at this time; we will provide you with an update on your decision by March 31st. At that time the possible admission decisions are admit, waitlist, and deny. Complete information about the University’s holistic review process is provided online.
