Applications for dorm placement

My son has filled out his housing application and put in order of preference the housing he would like. It seems a bit confusing as to how they do the selection process and which ones you have to fill out a supplemental application for. I called housing and was told most kids sign up for a learning community so you would need a supplemental for all but honors or capstone. Really?? All kids sign up for learning communities. The way he described it to me it was really the only way to really have a chance getting into a paticular building. So are you picking 5 different learning communities you would be interested in? Is this correct and if so how involved are the learning communities? My son is going for computer sci nice and didn’t think he’d be interest d in that community. He was looking at Maxcy, Preston, Columbia and south tower. Any other suggestions of buildings would be appreciated. Thanks…

It’s different for different communities and there are dorms associated with “all women” and “all men” so that is an option that is more generic. Preston is a very different thing so read up on that before you apply. Great location but includes requirements for dining together etc. - more of a residential college feel.
