applications for fall of 2007?

Ok, I know its way too early to be thinking about this. But around when will they be releasing the applications for the fall of 2007. I like to try to get an early start on things for planning and such. If anyne could let me know a ball park date, It'd really help. Thanks alot.

It seems like last year (fall of 05) they released the application in late August. From what I remember. You can get a copy of the old application I believe from the school but I think they say the application may change.

usually the essays will change some but that timing sounds right to me. Don't worry, I was the same way Anglswings so I can relate. If I see them up I will try to remember to post! It is alwalys good to get a early start on this stuff!

thanks alot. Yes, unfortunatly I am a procrastinator, so I try to get things started as early as possible, so they will hopefully be finished on time. :)

Late summer I remember last year. They mailed me 2 or 3 copies of the application around September/October/November. You will most likely be able to access it by the end of August. You really need not do all of the busy work (such as writing in the names and SS#'s right away. Instead, you should work on the general essays and supplemental essays first. Just think of ideas, and maybe even carry an index card around, jotting down ideas whenever you get them. That is what I did. I actually took quite a long time on my essay (def the hardest part of every application). So all in all, its a good idea to get the essay out of the way first. Everything else is busy work.

Yes, that is my biggest worry. I am a math and science nerd... Writing is definetly not my best subject. I've been trying to jot down all ideas that i come up with (there arent very many) Everything else, im not too worried about. Thanks alot.

Every year they give you an option to write on whatever you want. They want to make the application as easy as possible(at least that's what they told us at the info session last summer). So, focus on writing essays for other colleges, then take the best one and submit it with the ND app.

Thats a good idea. I actually wrote one main essay and appended a paragraph before and after to change the focus of the essay. I guess to start off for any essay, just jot down any ideas or mental images. Dont just write stuff down that you think is a good idea or is important. Write everything down, and organize later. At this point, just get everything down on paper and later you can decide what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. Glad to help, I certainly needed it.

Oh yes and while essay topics may change, themes usually stay the same, like: charity, why you want to be part of the notre dame tradition/family, stuff like that.

anglswings: When you do write your essay, make sure you have someone proofread it - nothing worse than sending in an essay with mistakes or incomplete thoughts. Also, ND always stresses in their essay instructions that they want to know more about you personally, so don't be afraid to let them see what moves you, motivates you, excites you, etc.

And don't worry about submitting a "Topic of Your Own Choice" essay, because I used my common app essay and I was accepted. The option is there for a reason, use it if you want to.

Oh yes, and the regional rep made a huge deal about a few things: 1) dont misspell "Notre Dame" as "Noter Dame". 2) Dont say that you really want to go to "Notre Dame College" because they will send your application there, in Ohio/Maryland 3) Dont say that you really want to go to another school like "Boston College" or "USC" or really any other college in your essay. Believe it or not, many people have said "It has been my dream to go to Boston College" or "I really want to go to NYU" in their Notre Dame app essays.

And stay away from the "Rudy Essay," as my regional rep said. He told me they get hundreds of those a year, and they're aren't as original as everyone thinks.

Amen to the Rudy thing and I do know people that have put the wrong name in their essay... what idiots frankly (sorry but true). Double check everything!

Yea, I used the essay I wrote for USC and got in for next fall. I really believe that the anything you want option is a really good idea. You don't have to expend time and energy into writing another college app essay. I think the options they give are listed just to give you a prompt if you have no idea what you want to write about.

I did something similar AceRockolla. I wrote one essay and appended onto it a first and last paragraph. Something like that saves alot of work. I mean the base essay was the ND essay and the additions made it the USC essay (I was rejected to USC haha but accepted to my dream, ND). So its all good haha.

Alright, I know there is an anything essay but what exactly should be considered to write about? Just stick to topics about yourself? What kinda of topics should i be thinking about when planning my essay?

start off with a blank slate. jot down any topics that come to mind. write them down on an index card. keep in mind that the essay should not tell the admissions people about someone else. rather, it should tell them about you. stay away from the personal growth (aka rudy) essays. write about something unconventional. focus on something small and make it big.

personally, i wrote about one moment in time. i was teaching in mexico and i had the two kids behind me as i opened a door to a warehouse where i was supposed to teach. there were 2 desks in the center of the room and the room was full of dust. while this essay of mine was very descriptive, it was not about the room. it revealed alot of personal feelings that i had. that being said, the super-personal essay is the best.

If it helps, this is what my essay was on.

I was very active in student council in high school and for the elections my junior (so elections for senior) year the teacher in charge messed the ballots up badly and in some races 110% of eligble votes voted. I did research on what could be done, withdrew from the race, and called all the other candidates that night and got about half of them on-board (even some winners). Then I filed the first formal protest of a vote in my school's history. The vote was overturned.

It actually wasn't the best essay I don't think but I still kind of like the topic. I have no idea what I will do for my gad school essays next year, however!

see red06 .... im not really all that deep. i dont really see alot of writing as more than the big picture, unless i hjave to, so i doubt ill be able to write something in that aspect. I'm trying to plan things this summer though that i may get something out of that i can write about. I'm go to ND Engineering summer program, then hopefully Ireland for a 4 week stay. :D Maybe ill find something there.
