thanks BunsenB....from Wellesley's class of 2012 profile page ( Statistics 2012 ), I add up 3981 applicants [from the SAT sections.....interesting that Wellesley doesn't just simply say how many applied, were accepted & enrolled....a bit cryptic!]

Dartmouth has apparently done a re-count since last week. From the Dartmouth News:

"With applications for its Class of 2013 now tallied, Dartmouth has experienced yet another record-breaking year, with 18,007 applications, a nearly 9 percent increase from last year’s record 16,538, according to Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Maria Laskaris. Early decision applications were also up 9 percent over last year.

Dartmouth has already accepted 401 students into the Class of 2013 through the early decision admissions program, and expects to admit about 1,800 students through the regular decision program. Approximately 1,095 of those admitted are expected to matriculate in Sept. 2009."

Cal-Berkeley up 0.4%

Santa Cruz down 2% (any out-of-stater's interested?)

Tufts-- reported that the ED 1 app pool "exactly" the same size as last year, and RD app pool down 4%. As ED1 apps are a small fraction of total apps, I'd guesstimate total apps are down somewhere between 3% and 4%.

According to this Olin College thread, the number of applications surprisingly decreased this year. Since the tuition is free at Olin this seems to go against the general economic trends.

"NYU Receives Record Number of Freshman Applications
Friday, Jan 23, 2009

New York University today announced that it received the largest number of freshman applications in the University’s history. For the second year in a row, over 37,000 high school seniors applied to be NYU freshmen. Some 37,180 men and women applied for NYU’s class of 2013, an increase of 123 applications over last year, the previous record."
