... more than 45 percent increase in applications over last year. The 13,636 applications for next school year include a 75 percent surge in minority students, the university said.

Applications have risen at many universities because students are applying to more institutions. But Rick Bischoff, vice president for enrollment at CWRU, attributes the dramatic rise in applications there to recruitment

I predict that it is going to be hard for the CWRU admissions officers to predict yield. I love Case. Glad to hear that high school students and their families are taking more notice of it.

For many years I have thought Case was undervalued by kids. I hope they get a great yield. It’s long overdue.

Sounds like they are doing a good bit more recruiting. Perhaps they have fallen into the USNWR trap of believing that turning more people down makes for a better school.

I am curious about Case. It’s attractive due to the great merit aid, which has piqued my interest. But how good is the school? It’s never been on my radar screen.

What are comparable schools in terms of selectivity and quality of the undergraduate programs? Especially for the Math/Science/Engineering programs?

The quality of the undergrad math/science/engineering programs is very high.

Case is a great school. I think of it as a younger sibling of Carnegie Mellon (both are small schools in urban locations strong in math and science) although Case might be more medically oriented than Carnegie Mellon.
