the NY Times is reporting that apps to UD increased 9.8% this year, that translates to an additional 2,200 applicants. Seems like UD admissions will be more competitive this year.

Thanks for sharing Pamom. More applicants. Just what we need, more anxiety. This march 15th notification is horrible. i won’t share this link with my D.

Socal - sheesh - could you have posted an hour ago? Duh! I mentioned this to the DD. what the heck was I thinking? I didn;t share the article, just the info. She’s like - great - what good news.

sorry folks didn’t mean to add to your anxiety…on a positive note it is great that more students are showing interest in all that UD has to offer.

Note that applications to Penn State were up only 3.7%, in comparison.

I wish that article posted instate/out of state applications, as well as m/f. Makes me wonder what about the reasons for such a spike. Out of state tuition is high.

MY theory on why UD apps are up. Nothing scientific, just my opinion.

With the economy still bad, I think many parents are looking at the price of Publics vs. Privates. Delaware offers a very good education at a better price than other schools. The difference in education between syracuse, del, American and other like schools, is negligible. The price difference is huge. Also, the size of Delaware vs the many large publics, is somewhat unique. 16 thousand students is more manageable than 30 thousand plus kids. I can understand why applications are up. Our families desire for Delaware was driven by the combination of Quality, size, and price. I think many feel as we do. Hence, a possible reason for the uptick in applications.
Now, all we need is an acceptance.
