Applications

Hi! I'm going to be a senior in high school this fall and had few questions that I was hoping some of you all could help me answer.

1.) If there are reasons as to why one year your grades were lower compared to other years, are you allowed to state that in your application?

2.) What would you say is one thing most colleges look for in an essay?

3.) What are some of the top schools in the U.S. that have a more hollistic view of a colleg application?

4.) Is it a bad idea to apply to one of the top colleges that are in Canada or are they more strict on having less international students?

Thanks! :)

1.) If there are reasons as to why one year your grades were lower compared to other years, are you allowed to state that in your application?

Many will allow you to expand on that in your essay if it is pertinent. Many state schools will not particularly show much interest as long as you have rebounded, but it is always pertinent with private schools.

2.) What would you say is one thing most colleges look for in an essay?

Good grammer/spelling. (Don’t assume spell check is right!). I know that isn’t what you are asking, but it is something that a lot of students neglect. Have at least 2 people read your essay for grammer before sending it in.

3.) What are some of the top schools in the U.S. that have a more hollistic view of a college application?

Too many to list - you would need to be a bit more specific about your location, grades, etc.

4.) Is it a bad idea to apply to one of the top colleges that are in Canada or are they more strict on having less international students?

If it is what you want, but based on your initial description, I’d make sure you have a good few safety schools.
